I'd be glad to offer him 1yr, 1.75m in Phoenix. Assure him he will get to at least audition for Ray Whitney's spot on the LW of the Hanzal, Vrbata line. Ray revived a fading career in a big way on that line. Gomez could potentially be a good fit there and it might be just what he needs to improve his reputation and get his career back on track. He'd be playing a big role, on a well coached quality team, with excellent linemates in a zero pressure market. Pretty good recipe to turn things around.

If he doesn't like idea of wing, he could always slide into that center spot Phoenix has been looking to fill. Not any higher up the depth chart than any other interested team could offer, though. Even then, Korpikoski and Moss are pretty decent linemates. Defensively responsible and do the dirty work themselves. Takes pressure off and he can concentrate on just trying to rack up points and get max value on his next contract.

Wouldn't be shocked if some players on long term high paying contracts suck it out this year, get bought out and land new contracts all done on purpose.

Think of it, a player like Lecavalier or Brad Richards could easily suck on purpose, get a 5g-15assist season, gets bought out and then signs a contract with a team that gives him a shot and lands a 4 year 16 million contract, from that pov I could see Tampa panicking and buying him out and can see another team giving him a shot for 4m/year.

Could be a goldmine for certain players.

He'd be a great marketing addition in Phoenix where they could leverage him to help bring more Alaskans to the games.

As a Habs fan ill say three things. Huge contract that put too much pressure on him to perform in two of the biggest nhl markets. There was no real scoring threat to play with him that he actually had chemistry with. He was way too predictable when he had the puck on a rush.

I probably would have offered Gomez the 1 year, $1 million contract that Hecht just received from the Sabres. With the Hecht re-signing, there's no need for a guy like Gomez. Who knows what other teams would offer, though. I'll venture a guess of 1 year, $1.5 million.

I'd be surprised if Vancouver didn't at least kick the tires.

Come on. He'd be fine as a 12/13 forward. I mean, ****. As a 4th liner, he'd at least be able to get the puck out of the zone. Even if he can't do much with it once he gets it into the O-Zone, it's out of your own zone.

That's true but given he's getting full pay he might be prepared to go to a contender cheap (<$900K magic number) for this year.

I'll give you $2m to pay him $600K ($600K doesn't count in the minors)

Except Tampa and New York are both playoff caliber teams.

Frankly I don't see that happening, particularly in the two specific cases described (Richards has had an interest in playing with Nash since back when he was still a Bolt about to be traded, and Lecavalier seems pretty attached to the Tampa Bay area.)

As a ducks fan I'm not completely oppose to the idea of him playing 2nd line center for us, i mean looking at his career stats the guy is obviously well established, up until 2 seasons ago of a 14 year career he put up good numbers.

The team willing to pick up gomez will NOT be a contender, honestly his stock has fallen badly and I wouldn't want him at all on the NYR, DRW, or Van team.

I would bet a team like NJ, or Fla or CLB, or someone else weak would be willing to pay him 900K for 1 year and maybe if he does well you resign him, and you create an asset from nothing.

I mean ask MTL fans, if gomez made 500K per season right now, would you even want him on the team?? (or are there better players to take his spot?)

He wouldn't make much sense here in Columbus. We've got plenty of centers as is.

Maybe if we get injury-disastered at that position it'd be a possibility. He'd certainly fit in, and a one-year low-salary signing would be a better option than abruptly calling up Jenner or Chaput or someone else midway through their development.

Sure why not. Our bottom half has been **** the last two years. Why not pay $1m or so on a chance he has something left. I don't care if he's been **** for a couple seasons, my cat is an upgrade over Handzus.

1 year league minimum or close to it. Maybe make it a bonus-heavy contract if you're able to do that with this CBA.

Like if he gets a goal, it's an extra 500K...

Can the Rangers sign him for a 1 yr $500K type deal just to troll everyone?
