Truth is, I would like Luongo, but not at the price they will want and would not want to be stuck with that contract. And I wouldn’t trade Stalberg for him either.

How about Bishop from Ottawa? Sens have 2 pretty good goalies besides him and I would suspect he could be had. I don’t know much about his game or what it would take to get him. Anyone have thoughts on his game?

One thing certain in my mind when it comes to our goaltending. We are too thin and it would be very risky to stand pat. Even if both CC and Emery have good seasons, we need a third who can play in the NHL in case of injury.

People suggesting Luongo must be joking. One of the worst contracts in the NHL. Hawks cannot afford another high-AAV contract. They just can't.

Crawford is the answer right now. Improve the PK and you can cover up Crawford's issues. The Hawks already give up fewer shots than most. If Crawford plays a bit better and the defense plays a bit better then that will make Crawford look a lot better than last year.

He's not a great goalie but he can be passable on this team.

We don't need great goaltending. We could get by with good or even just decent goaltending. But the backbreaking goals that Crawford let in during the playoffs and the subpar play we saw from both him and Emery during the season just won't cut it.

I still think Crawford can bounce back. We've seen him when he's on his game and it was promising. But if he can't step it up then we need to look for a trade because Emery definitely isn't the answer.

Regular season … perhaps, but playoffs you do. And please don’t say we won the SC with average goaltending. We did, but that was an anomaly that isn’t about to be repeated very often. Through the years virtually every SC winner is backed by Conn Smyth like goaltending. So if we go into the playoffs with Crawford, he not only has to be good. He must be exceptionally good. Is he capable? He hasn’t proved it yet.

I can't wait for this tandem to be broken up. You have to have two guys that could potentially take the reigns. If you have that, you'll end up with a decent enough starter.

Coldsteel: Do you not have a comment about Bishop as a goalie? The little I have seen of him, he looked pretty good and Sens are one of the few teams that may be able to cough up a netminder.

You know what, when he first started playing with the Blues, I thought he was pretty slow but with his size, he can be slow if he has great positioning and nobody can deny that he has improved quite a bit the last two seasons. Yeah, I'd definitely be willing to pick him up and give him a shot. As most here know by now, I love outside the box ideas and a 6' 7" goalie who is consistently improving certainly qualifies.

Lehner said he is done signing 1 way contracts and on top of that, the guy is pretty ****ing good. He should be in the NHL now, has nothing else to prove in other leagues. He should be on the NHL roster right now and slowly taking over for Anderson.

I'm all for getting Bishop, as long as it doesn't cost a decent roster player, a top prospect or a 1st round pick.

How about Hjalmersson for Bishop and Zach Smith.

Crawford was on the radio today. They asked him if it adds pressure knowing that he's on the hot seat and he basically said nothing will phase him, it's part of being an NHL goalie. They also asked how he gets over it when he lets a bad goal in and continues to play his game. His response was pretty much just focusing on the next shot, and not worrying about the last. Wasn't too insightful of an interview, but he seemed like a cool, down to earth guy.

He also said he likes to play soccer before the game to get his hand eye coordination going....apparently it sucks to play soccer with Corey Crawford because he uses his hands.

I don't care what he says I want to see it in reality. He can say all the right things about no letting bad goals get to him or being mentally strong all he wants but last year on several occasions I saw a goalie who was mentally defeated.

You do that trade in a second.

Carcillo-Toews-Hossa
Sharp-Bolland-Kane
Stalberg-Smith-Shaw

That top-nine is not bad.

Keith-Seabrook
Oduya-Rozsival
Leddy-Brookbank
Stanton

Decent but not great defense. Defense was decent but not great with Hammer in there, too.

The goalie position would still be a ?, and the defense gets weaker.

Like I said, I would probably do it (i'm not too high on Hammer) but I wouldn't do it in a second.

Bishop is an upgrade over Emery. You could then look to acquire another goalie that is of number one quality and include Crawford to make the roster and cap availability work out.

Sure... and what tree shall we pick him from?

The condensed schedule is going to be gruelling for goalies, and no team will want to trade away what the have. I won't be surprised if even Canucks ride out the year with Luongo. There's not a surplus, that's for sure.

Lebrun said Hawks/Kings had talks in summer about Bernier

If true they were likely shelved by Kings IMO with Quick's surgery requirement
