Kings - Leafs

Bernier and Tyler Toffoli to the Leafs. What kind of value would LA want in return.

Why would the Leafs any interest in Bernier?

Because he has higher potential than any goaltender the Leafs have.

Toffoli is the first pure goal scorer the Kings have had in their pipeline in..... forever, and Bernier is really needed in a shortened season. I'm guessing something substantially more than the Leafs would want to give. The Kings have a full roster they are happy with, so you would be looking at top prospects

I think he's serious considering LA would be plucking a top six center from the team. I'm not saying Bozak is a true top six forward, but he is on our crappy team.

Not sure why LA would even want Bozak or Connolly TBH.

It would be allot.

TT is our best O wing prospect and that is our one area of true need (more so after this season). He is looking very good in camp (though is almost certainly heading back to Manchester). He will be cheap when he does come up making him even more valuable.

I don't see you guys dealing what we need in order to move him and JB will cost allot too. It would be a pricey package.

They wouldn't which is why he was probably joking. I really don't see a deal between the 2 teams with toffoli added. Bernier alone is possible.

I can't see Toffoli being moved. He is by far our best wing prospect in a long time, he's having a fantastic rookie season in the AHL, and there will probably be two wing spots open on the Kings next year

Don't the Leafs need a veteran goalie one who can mentor Reimer and split the duties. I think going with two young goalies again is a bad idea IMO. If MLSE believe Reimer is netminder then they would be better off getting a veteran as a back up. If they don't think Reimer is the guy, then get a goalie with enough experience who would be an actual upgrade because I don't think Bernier is much of an upgrade over Reimer, he may have the potential as does Reimer but they aren't there yet.

Based on where scouts thought his development was over 6 years ago? Certainly you're not making this argument based on stats, right?

Toffoli goes no where.

He will be replacing one of Penner or Gagne soon.

Bernier's availability has been beaten to death.

The Kings would want more than the Leafs would be willing to give up

From Lombardi

Then, earlier today, the Kings held their season kick-off press conference at Staples Center. After the main portion was over and the smaller scrums began – this is where all the good stuff really happens at these things – I directly asked GM Dean Lombardi about the possibility of a Bernier trade:

“I don’t think that’s feasible at all right now. He’s an important part of this team. Let’s face it, our guys in the minors aren’t ready for that role. And that’s an important role. Like Darryl [Sutter] says, with all these games back-to-back and stuff – hey, a number two starter in baseball is pretty important and that’s the way a goaltender is. (So), I don’t see how that’s possible. He’s too important to us.”

No, based on his play in the NHL. Just ask Kings fans what kind of goaltender Bernier can be if given the right opportunity.

As stated already, Bernier is too valuable to the Kings this season and TT is very valuable for the Kings next season and beyond. A mass overpayment would have to happen for the Leafs so they'll simply stay put.

Honestly... no need for Toffoli in a deal.

As for what it would take to get Bernier, I don't think he's going anywhere this year, and at the very least, not to Toronto. Like Lombardi said, he needs a capable and proven backup, and right now, there aren't any UFA's remaining. Chicago certainly has that to offer in the form of Ray Emery, but the Leafs don't.

Absolutely not to Toffoli. LA and Toronto can talk about Bernier after the season concludes, when LA knows who is replacing him and when Toronto has a handle on their own current duo.

I'd to it. It's quality for quantity. Maybe take out the 2nd or Franson..
