good for Scott if true.

Just hope he doesn't suddenly find his scoring touch against us

Gomez get a ton of money an extra 1-2 million for this year from some other team and all that interest money. WHY DO I DO THIS FOR HIM????? for FREE???????? WTF.

Gomez states he wants to play this year so he has a better chance of landing a good contract come July, so ok
if he can find a team that would take him now for the 1/2 year what ever he gets should come off what the Habs pay, is this not what Gomez states is the reason for this new rule. OR is Gomez lying to the world and it's all about MORE MONEY MORE MONEY MORE MONEY>
First paragraph: excellent point.
Second paragraph: you're forgetting that Gomez will essentially retire after his hockey career - it is ALWAYS in his best interest to maximize his money. This is real life speaking, not "honour" and "sports".

But your first paragraph is a really solid point - it doesn't make any sense to give him (48 games worth of) 5.5m flat out now if Molson could sequence that over a series of weekly paycheques... But then again the buyout could possibly be just that and not a lump sum.

Anyway I'm sick of Gomez and I'm glad he's gone. If he does good abroad in the NHL it'll look worse for us and our lockeroom (and our beloved midget captain) so I don't really want him to do well nor do I expect him to suddenly play the corners and create actual goal scoring opportunities.

Keep at it Scotty, you stole money from us and your contract kept us from offering deals to BRichards, Parise, Suter and many more - I hope you keep at your 1g/year pace.

A little harsh no? If you were him would you have 1. turned down the contract Sather offered, 2, have renegotiated it to reduce your pay when your production plummetted or retired to stop getting paid?

Neither but then again, I'm not him and I'm not mad at him being him. I'm mad at him for being a terrible hockey player and a burden and distraction for the organization from the day he was traded to potentially the day he retires.

He's fully entitled to his money, I'm entitled to think he didn't play worth a damn.

The second he's bought out can we close this thread? I don't want to think about, see conversations about or remember Gomez's time here.

The last good thing to come of Gomez will be getting a better rate on PK and sooner. Bergevin pushed for the expeditied buy out clause - partially because he wants to minimize risk and do the right thing, but also in no small part because Redden's agent is the same guy representing Subban.

...all of which has nothing to with PK or how much he signs for.

Vancouver.

So their lines can be:

Sedin, Sedin, Kassian,
Raymond, Gomez, Burrows
Higgins, Lapierre, Hansen
Weise, Malholtra, Ebbett

Only for cheap.

Alain Vigneault was at l'Antichambre show tonight on RDS. When asked about Scott Gomez being UFA, he said Canucks won't try to sign him.

And... That's a surprise? Really?

I predict he'll sign with the Aces...

He'll wind up with the Lightning, somehow. They always end up with our old stuff.

Gomez is likely still NHL caliber but not on a winning team. He is not producing enough to be on the top 2 lines and he is not gritty/defensive enough for the bottom lines.

I saw some Canucks fans on the main boards hoping to sign him on the cheap since Kesler is hurt for a while.

And now that Gomez is soon to be an ex-Habs people are already beginning to say that he wasn't that bad actually.

Hey everyone, Gomez is terrible. He wouldn't do better with another team. Forget it. Players that leave the Habs are not always much better elsewere.

Who knows though, with a new start he might be rejuvenated. It's happened a pile of times, look at Ryder in Dal, Afinogenov in Atl and many other examples.
