Fornes and Koken def. did games for Channel 20. I was in the booth for a game from Madison Square Garden on St. Paddy's Day, 1986 (coming to you from New York, I'm Mike McFornes and this is Al O'Koken).

I remember them on 20 now that you say that. I remember one year on St Patty's Day they called Al Koken, Al O'Koken and in an 1980's grade graphic tried to make his hair look green.

There were so few games on TV in the stone age its tough to remember all the guys.

There just had to be someone before those 2...

I can't remember who did the announcing before that on channel 20, but remembering trying to get a picture that was watchable through the "snow" with the UHF antenna, really makes you appreciate High-Def!

No but it depends if you're watching live or on-demand. After owning a PVR before, I can't stand to watch live hockey because it's too slow with that many advertisements. The games show up faster on-demand on hockeystreams than they do on gamecentre (which is embarassing considering gamecentre is an official source).

I believe registration to nhltorrents.co.uk was open earlier today, might still be open, that plus hockeystreams on demand broadcasts is the way to go for me. Okay maybe the occasional live game through OTA.
Call me a sucker but I don't mind paying the NHL. But this news of on demand streams might change things. As a part time student I don't anticipate catching any 700 games and I assumed gamecenter was my only option.

Was Channel 20 the first channel we got games on?

Oh man I used to get pissed when the signal would crap out and I would have to run over and tweak the circled version of the rabbit ears.

Modern day yutes have no idea what rabbit ears are.

And it was always snowing if you lived more than a few miles from River Road.

Channel 20, wasn't this also back in the days of Home Team Sports? We never did get that channel, seem to remember it being expensive at the time. Ah, Media General Cable. I still remember the boxes and remotes. What was it, 120 channels? I still remember the old primitive weather radar channel

edit: somehow didn't see Brooklyn's post

Had NHL Gamecenter Live last year so went ahead and did it again. Only downside was that they don't seem supported by the viera panasonic tvs any more which is what I used most of the time at home to watch. Not that big a deal as I can use the PS3 or android phone/tablet if need be.
Is it on demand or live? Meaning if I get it out here, can I watch it at 9pm PST?

Signed up today - so it's available in Cali. Not sure yet how the live vs. on-demand thing works. Hopefully others will advise.

Cable was so expensive back then, my folks wouldn't spring for it. But we had tix so made the trekout to Landover a lot. At home, tho, it was all channel 20 for me. Good lord that was some pitiful broadcasting.

We had SuperTV for awhile...

Probably. Just tell him that you've streamlined the art of being almost-good for profit.

Its live man it totally rocks. I work a while past the 7pmm games so have the gnex streaming live games and have the audio plugged into the PC speakers. Also condensed versions of the previous nights game the next day. NHL Vault pretty cool when one feels nostalgic for the prime BB scoring years, heh.

Yep on the porn. First sex flick I ever saw was on there -- called Pink Champagne. Stayed up late one night when the parents were out. Had no idea that kind of thing existed. Was shocked and horrified and couldn't look away. Total 12-year-old girl lifechange. LOL!!

Yes on Super Dave too. ;-)

I emailed him a play diagram I drew up and suggested myself for coach once. It was MS Paint flying V. In the Hanlon days, obviously.

Who's getting the 2nd A?

I seem to recall it being vacant during the playoffs, but Laich and Brouwer both got A next to their name on the roster, but how up to date in regards to this situation I don't know.

Is there anyone out there who wouldn't rather have Semin right now than Laich? There probably is. Our 4.5 million 16 goal man.

Usually the Semin hater on this board are the biggest Laich fanboys.

I'm fairly confident that the team almost to a man would rather have Brooks Laich than Alex Semin. Laich is overpaid because he was coveted by numerous teams. Semin, not so much. Laich outscored Semin each of the last three years in the playoffs and did so while providing play in all facets of the game; and so on...
