According to the main boards, outside of Del Zotto, the only thing our defensemen are good for are hitting and blocking shots .

This team has a lot of speed with all the mentioned people. Team speed has improved so much since the 05-06 season.

The 07 team wasn't that fast outside of Cullen, Straka, and a very young Cally.

The first line in 07 wasn't fast at all besides Straka who was a buzzsaw. Jagr was powerful and an amazing puck protector, and Nylander wasn't fast just very deceptive with his "waltz" movements.

McDonagh had 32 points, over some offensive studs like Fowler, Goligoski, and Bogosian, while playing the toughest division, all while averaging 37 seconds of powerplay time per game.

But yeah, obviously any defenseman who puts up 40+ points and doesn't play defense at all is so much more valuable.

Sheer entertainment value.

And it's easy to start a discussion there since it's more active. And I like to hear what other fanbases think.

Fastest skate = Karl Hagelin. Per pierre mcguire during 2012 playoffs Krieder is the fastest person on the ice between both teams mean Kreider faster than Hagelin. Jesper Fast in the system. So "No" they're definitely not getting slower.

Slow? No. But everything collapses down to the crease.

When you have to start your breakout from right in front of your net, it's a lot easier for everyone to get back in time...IE, no breakaways, IE, you look slow.

Multiply over a long schedule, and there you have it.

Better offense = improved puck possession in offensive zone, best way to defeat this.

We are slow at the center position. I wonder if there is a team in the league with slower centers than we have. But besides that position we skate pretty well.

you can find just about everything the English language has to offer from sentences that starts with "According to the main boards"

Funny enough, I've heard from two Canucks fans who know hockey fairly well that they think Michael Del Zotto is our #1 D man.

yes. we are fairly slow at the center spot and overall we are just average. and when you are slow up the middle, thats not good in todays game. we have 2 guys with blazing speed on the edge with kreider and hags but beyond that, we are average.

gaby isnt fast anymore other than short bursts, and derek stepan skates in mud, the rest of the wingers are pretty much just plain slow.

the saving grace is with the torts "system" average skaters can succeed. speed really isnt a key component to the torts way. puck pressure, backchecking, playing as a 5 man unit and henrik lundqvist wins games in torts' world.

of more concern is the average age of our 3 key offensive players.

richards gaby and nash = 30 yrs of age.

What makes you think Gaborik would have lost his some of his quickness?

So am I out to lunch or did the Rangers become the Knicks from the 90s? A team that purposely slows down the game as a defensive strategy?
If anything they got faster.

Kreider and Hagelin are faster than Dubi and AA

Nash can skate
Pyatt can skate.

Granted, the grinding style of keeping the puck along the walls creates the illusion of being a slow team, but that is part of the system and done by design.

Good point. Richards and Stepan are smart players, but not exactly fleet of foot. Boyle has improved since his power-skating lessons, but still not exactly a speed-demon. Halpern, at 36, is a snail. Hope hes not depended on to do much other than take face-offs and be the guy to take up space in the middle while Rupp/Asham cause havoc.

The most important thing in the game today is that your defenseman can skate and pivot well. The Rangers have (5) d-men who can do just that. There is more offense and stress put on the defensemen to join the rush or lead the rush than in any time I can remember.

I'd say we're probably on par with where we were last year. Adding Kreider and Nash bumps up the speed in the top nine, but Pyatt, Halpern and Asham aren't as quick as Prust, Artie, Mitchell and Feds. Not that any of them were speedsters, but Halpern is slow as hell and Asham has certainly lost a few steps.

They can all be gold medal speed skaters, but they play slow.
