And Kassian hasn't been playing too well in camp. It's believed that his back is still injured.

Thanks gentlemen. Figured Burrows would be put on the second line to help balance out the scoring since Kesler and Booth are out, which would give Kassian an opportunity, but that doesn't seem to be the case. Goodluck Saturday!

On Kass' back injury, I think that they're being extremely precautious. Every AHL game I saw him in he was getting the brunt of the physicality from the AHLers trying to earn an NHL spot. Guys were trying to manhandle him to prove they could be dusters and fight but ended up getting annihilated. So he's been banged around way more than usual players would, but I suspect he'll be fine. He was incredibly dominant in all those games though. He's got a filthy set of mitts.

From my blog: #canucks Maxim Lapierre gained 20 pounds of muscle during the lockout. He'll be way more stronger on the ice.

Lou also apparently stones the team regularly during shootout practice as well, lets wait for games to judge. These practices dont mean much and lou probably knows the team very well.

For my money, Hodgson was clearly the better player coming out of camp last year. He may not have had the numbers to back it up, but the gap in performance was noticeable, IMO.

Hopefully being heavier does not mean he will be slower . . . I'd much rather have a faster Lappy centering the 3rd than a bruiser Lappy on the 4th.

Cheers

With how the game was called last season, size will be more beneficial than speed IMO. It will give Lapierre that much more power in his hits and help with cycling and puck protection - 2 assets that will be key if we keep moving backwards into full obstruction mode.

Hopefully it helps in the fighting department as well, as Lapierre is pretty poor with the gloves off. Maybe Vandermeer can teach Max a few tricks, as Vandermeer is one of the cagier, 2 handed fighters around.

Lapierre also said he isn't going to chirp this season. Easy to say without the competetive juices flowing. Let's see how long that lasts.

Who cares about fighting - most useless part of hockey. As long as Lappy still has his speed and hits good.

Probably the guys getting punched in the face by professional athletes. I think you would have a different opinion if you were on the business end of some of those shots.

Yes who cares, it's not like size and intimidation played a role in our finals series against Boston!

From what I have seen, Lapierre hasn't lost any speed or agility. He hasn't been very physical in camp but what do you expect. Hopefully he can put that weight to good use this season. Malhotra also looks stronger and faster. Pushed Kassian around a couple times today.

How hard can it be pushing a guy around with a bad back on skates? Manny's no lighweight either. I really hope Manny can return to pre-eye injury form. Saku did it. Ohlund did it. Hoping Manny can do it too.

God bless the NHL's terrible drug testing policy.

You can put on 20lbs of muscle over 8 months of training without taking PED's. Not sure if that was meant as a baseless accusation or a pretty bad joke.

Lapierre actually lost weight because he felt slower since he bulked up so much. Good to see how dedicated he is, he's a tank now.

From what I keep hearing, Manny is looking a lot better in the practices so far. We really need him to be that Selke like forward again with the injuries we're facing.

I didn't see that from my perspective. To me, Schroeder looked the better of the two (at least without the puck).

Have we not learned especially as Canucks fans? We haven't had a fighter and we constantly get pushed around because of that reason. All of the guys that can fight on our roster are too important to take off the ice for a long stretch of time (Lapierre, Bieksa etc). Now it's nice to have Vandermeer that other teams know they'll have to answer to it they want to screw around with our top players.
