I'm with you 95%, I think this will be Karlsson though, he has looked extremely good in camp and has been training with Iginla during the lockout, while Irving has been sitting in a press box. Don't get me wrong, I love Irving as the Flames future, but he isn't our best option for what we need this season. I think Karlsson is ready, and what's more important, he's extremely confident in himself which is something he lacked last season before and after the injury.

We would have to win a shootout to see that again. Would have seen th playoffs last year if we won those shootouts.

I'm starting to get the feeling that maybe you are matt stajan...

Anyways, I don't know what you're smoking so fervently but pass some of it over here.

If Stajan is in our top-6, we can at least expect to draft one of Barkov, Lindholm, Drouin, or Monahan, so I guess that's the upside? hahaha

Living in toronto and being a flame fan ive seen more stajan than almost anyone, and id definitely like to see him tried out in the top 6... if only for a few games. he has been productive in the past and was the best player down the stretch after baertschi was sent back down last season.

I love how by saying he is our best center people take it as I think he is Crosby good. I think Stajan is a #3 center on a deep team or a #2 center on a offensive team. People just look at his totals and say wow he sucks but ignore the fact that much like Jbo he was vastly misused under Sutter. He has a fresh start this year I think that he will make you and many others eat crow.

Also with Gomez most likely being bought out I would invite him to camp he couldn't really be much worse than we already have and who knows maybe he finds chemistry with Iginla.

I think that way too:

Iginla - Cammalleri - Tanguay
Wideman - Giordano

Tanguay makes plays from right to other players. One timer chances for Iggy and Wideman and of course from other side vice versa.

the second unit is harder to say but:

Bärtschi - Hudler - Cervenka
Bouwmeester - Brodie

Definitely Cervenka to right side, he's great right there. Very good vision and has scored nice goals in PP from there. Sees those empty places in goal and uses them. Hudler is great in stickhandling and I think that he deserves much PP-time. He and Bärtschi should be good at making plays.

But after I saw that we don't have quality players to the second unit who shoots right, I think that these lines would also be nice:

1. PP:
Glencross
Iginla - Hudler - Giordano
Tanguay

In this unit we need two players who are great in stick handling. One who has grit in front of net and two with nice one timer shots. Iginla, Tanguay and Giordano plays like a rainbow, Hudler is in the middle where Tanguay can give passes and Hudler shares those passes quickly to Iggy or Giordano who can shoot one timers from those passes. I think that Hudler is the best choice to the middle because he's got good hands and passing play and in that role he would be nice. Glencross has grit and he is also good finisher so he would be my number one choice in front of net. It is worth testing I think, because we have tools to get this working. This opens many different choices to players and I think that it would be good unit for the Flames.

2. PP:
Bärtschi - Cammalleri - Cervenka
Wideman - Brodie

Wideman shoots while Bärtschi makes plays with Cammy and Cervenka. Everyone in this unit can finish plays to net.

really hope the line of sven backs and cammy sticks. Looks like a dangerous line though with the possibility of being too soft

Glenny is not wrong in the statement that Stajan is likely our best natural center, but I can see how people aren't exactly jumping up for joy with the idea of him centering the top line. While Jokinen was able to return to form, I think Stajan is capable as well. How many points are you expecting from a centermen getting 4th line minutes and feeding the puck to Jackman and Kostopolous? Stajan cannot carry a line's offense, he needs to supplement it, hence he was under utilized, but when given good wingers he has shown to contribe offensively

Jackman and Winchester as book ends for a small resourceful center would be an awesome energy line.

Bring back memories of the MacLellan-Fleury-Hunter Cup line.

In my honest opinion, I don't see Horak contributing much for the Flames. He gets hot but tails off after 10 games. I see him as a career AHLer while being the #1 callup. Of course, he is young, so thing can change.

Because he offers more Horak needs another year in the AHL he isn't ready for an extremely physical 48 games he will wear down faster than last year.

It sounds as if the Baertschi - Backlund - Cammy line is going to be a unit as Hartley has dubbed them the "BBC" line and says he likes the chemistry.

Is Stajan a bad hockey player, no. Can he be a useful asset to a team? Yes in the right role.

Stajan is not a great player, but he's a good player. He can fill in adequately and do a decent job when given a shot. However, he's not a guy that will lead anyone to a championship. The Flames don't have a lot other options right now and Stajan does have a place on our team. Hartley will figure out his best use.

I'm hoping Cervenka or Backlund will have good seasons and allow Stajan to be a good depth player that can fill in on the top 6 when needed.

Twenty? A couple more and the Heat will be rivaling the Coyotes pretty soon.

Hudler is wasted on the third line, IMO. He should be getting top-six ice time; he's one of the team's four best forwards.
