Jonatan Nielsen is keeping up with his great form. 1 goal and 1 assist so far in this game (Södertälje - Malmö, HockeyAllsvenskan), score is 2-1 atm. 7 points in 15 games so far.

Might turn out to be a pretty good 7th round pick.

Matheson got 5 and a game today for an elbow to the head of a UNH player (perhaps the lateness was a factor too)

Just thought some of you might be interested in that

I am a UNH fan and I saw it happen and it wasn't that bad. He had had two penalties already, and literally JUST got out of the box and immediately hit a UNH player who just passed the puck pretty high.

highlights of minnesotas 7-1 win tonight. camera angles of rau's goals make it hard to see how nice they were, but he is #7

Sounds like a pretty bad game for him. Not only does he literally take himself out of the game, he puts his team in a tough PK jam.

- Sam Brittain hasnt played in over a month which is very curious and not that good for his development
- You guys have already commented on Matheson's last game so I'll leave that out but looks like he's been bumped to 2nd pairing now

Junior Ryan Walters from Nebraska-Omaha has put up 36 pts in 24 games (15g 21a). He's a 6'0" 190 lbs left winger who's actually undrafted (was bypassed twice in both 2009 & 2010 drafts). He'll probably be one of the highly sought after free agents this offseason from the NCAA ranks.

Brittain hasn't played much for two reasons:

1) Juho Olkinuora is Denver's #1 goaltender and has had the job since about November.

2) In the games that Brittain has played so far this season, he hasn't been able to consistently put together good games. One example was against North Dakota last month. He just didn't look all that confident and his positioning was off throughout the game, which is very different than the way he looked last year after coming off of his injury and his freshman year.

how can someone who, supposedly, looked so ridiculously good in his freshman year just lose his job because of an injury? has that guy with a weird name played out of his mind? or is brittain just not that highly thought of?

I don't know how far John McFarland is off the radar of those of you who are interested in Panthers prospects, but don't let him get too far off of it.

McFarland had limited ice time in his 12 games with San Antonio (AHL), and was sent to Cincinnati (ECHL) in November. He has been nothing shy of spectacular at times. He has NHL speed and a skill set to go with it. He has a hard shot with a quick release (not the most accurate at times), and his vision of the ice is quite good. He uses teammates very effectively and creates space for himself when he is without the puck. In the past seven years, he is easily in the top three prospects to come through Cincinnati. The others two were David Desharnais (Montreal) and Cory Conacher (AHL MVP last season with Norfolk). Keep your eyes on this kid.

Another prospect who has NHL potential is Josh Birkholz (3rd round 2009 draft). He has decent size, speed galore and can carry the puck from the defensive zone into the offensive zone in no time flat. He is a very, very good penalty killer who creates a lot of offensive chances while on the PK. He needs to develop a bit better vision of the ice, but that will likely come with additional experience.

There are quite a few other decent Florida prospects in Cincinnati. Garret Wilson, David Pacan, and Michael Howser all appear to be quality players. Wilson has advanced very nicely from his rookie season and the other two are rookies who have obvious talents.

Actually Brittain didn't lose the job because of his injury. In fact, he was expected to be Denver's #1 (or co-#1) when the season began. As I mentioned in my previous post, Brittain played really well when he did return from his injury late late season. He lost the #1 job this season because, as mentioned already, he wasn't as consistent as Olkinuora has been to this point. Had Brittain shown the same level of consistency this season as he had when he returned from injury last season and his freshman year before that, he'd be the #1 guy right now.

I hope this answers your question.

He's been playing wing and is on the point during the power play. He also gets time on the PK. If the Cyclones had players who were on the same level as McFarland, his point total would be much higher than it already is.

Is this a breakout year for Knight or was he always supposed to be this good? #2 in scoring is very impressive to me...what kind of player is he projected to be for us?

I don't know, but the North Dakota fanbase has a campaign going on for him to get the Hobey Baker this year (whether it'll happen is a different story, but hes about tied for the lead in fan voting - which, of note, counts for only 1% of the actual vote)

Victoria Royals fan here. I know Steven Hodges' stats don't look particularly special (30 games, 14G 9A 23P), but I just wanted to let you guys know he's a hell of a player. He's by far the most complete player on Victoria and I would wager one of the most complete in the league. His skating, puck skills, hockey IQ, and defensive awareness are awesome.

He's currently sixth on the team in scoring (though he has missed time), but I'd say he is easily the best player on the team. He is almost singlehandedly keeping the Royals afloat amidst myriad injuries to our top forwards.

There is a reason why a 46 point WHL player got drafted in the third round. He is one hell of a player whose points do not even come close to telling the whole story.

Knight's stats have increased steadily for 4 years. He's been largely unknown and underappreciated. Most other teams' fans probably didn't even know who he was before this season. Probably because he's not flashy, he just goes about his business game in and out, being solid in all areas of the game. He's having a great season, and is a very good prospect, but keep in mind he's also a senior. I think his upside is a 2nd line center, with the likely outcome of a great 3rd liner. He's been more consistent than Shore and Bjugstad in college, but out of the three is the least skilled, IMO.

What impressed me right away about him was that he fought Kessy.

Keep your eyes on this kid.

.
Re-called to San Antonio along with Brian O'Hanley. Will meet the team in OKC tomorrow.
