That was expected. Nobody will pick him up, he will be bought out, no brainer.

Watch him put up 70 points in NJ.
HF would break from the amount of angry MTL fans.

Without the pressure of the media and that contract, I fully expect him to bounce back and have a serviceable season.

He just needs autonomous and creative wingers. Gomez's only purpose is to bring the puck to the blue line. At that point he should pass to a reliable winger and head to the bench.

I can't wait for someone to sign up thinking he still has upside.
He was given so many chances to produce, and yet he still can't get away from taking the puck to the blue line, stopping or slowing down then losing the puck killing all momentum.

It would. And I would not blame them.

Exactly. Wingers who have a) at least some chance of keeping up with him, and b) are actually looking for openings to get the puck. Well, c) are willing to chase after it and might even retrieve it if Gomez gets stuck and just throws it away or "fires" one of his underwhelming shots on net. I don't think Gomez found many options with the Habs, part of why he always looked so lost every time he gained the zone.

Why would they be mad ? He still wouldn't be worth 7.3 M

Gomez should go back to NJ. He's had good years there...maybe he can recreate some of the magic that gave him a 7.3M contract.
Sather is one lucky man.

Will be interesting to see who takes a chance on him, and at what price.

If the Avs can't get O'Reilly under contract I could see them take a gamble on Gomez.

With Duchene and Stastny their already I can't see him wanting to go there, he probably would want a team he knows he will be top 2 lines
My guess is either NJ or Phoenix

Nobody will claim him. He'll get bought out and then signed by someone else with a contract much, much less than $7.3 million a year.

There are zero teams that will claim him. There are MAYBE 2-3 who would give him a league minimum contract for this season to fill a hole. Thats about it.

What is the progress on this? And the available options/expected options?
Also, Habs fans must be happy as hell to finally be rid of Gomez.

For some reason I can see Detroit signing him to a cheap 1 year deal and he resurrects his career.
