I have a good source (me) that says that any rumor of a trade to Edm is manufactured to put pressure on PK to sign.

They didn't include Couturier in the package for Weber, and they're going to deal him for Subban?

Yessir. Meehan pulled out all the stops yesterday, taking to Twitter and various radio stations to parrot his line about PK and the Habs being far apart on a deal. I bet he was happier than a pig in **** when he saw the headline on TSN this morning.

Meehan and Bergevin are obviously playing a who-blinks-first game, and Meehan is well aware of time being on his side. I hope PK comes to his senses before it results in him missing any game time.

This is more than likely the reason.

Subban has stated that he does not want to be traded. So "sources" are leaking reports to the media hoping it will force him to sign before the season starts.

Jamie Benn to ****, MDZ to ****. Look at what happened to MDZ. Rumors said he was being shipped to EDM also. And then signs for 2 years.

I hope he plays Saturday, would be much less interesting game without him.

The "package" also included Brayden Schenn. Not the same thing.

We had a long summer to try and get (a new contract) done, it didn't happen," Subban told TSN last week. "So as far as I'm concerned it's out of my control. I can't offer myself a contract, so at this point now I'm just waiting and making sure that I'm keeping myself in shape so that once I get to training camp I'm ready to go.
Lol that makes sense...

Sure Philly would. Subban, after all, is a "generational talent." BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

IF Subban gets traded, it will be for a young forward, otherwise we'll get fleeced.

I know it would leave a big hole on defense but you won't be bale to flip Subban for Subban 2.0.

By definition, a team with a Subban 2.0 has no need for Subban. Therefore, we'd have to either do Subban + something for Subban 2.0 or we'd have to do Subban for Subban-lite. Therefore, fleeced.

We'd have no choice to target a team who really need to add a Subban in order to get maximum value in return. Since such a team by definition has no young valuable defenseman, we'd have to get young forward and/or picks.

Or Veterans! Oh crap, I forgot about veterans. Please, no veterans!

you're embarrassing your fan base, please stop.

I'm really interested to see what happens with the Canadians don't get this guy signed by starting night, seems like theres some serious hurdles to cross before these 2 can get a deal.

lets hope it doesnt take as long as the CBA agreement did

This is all about controlling UFA status, which is stupid. Habs want one more RFA contract, Subban wants his next contract to be UFA. Habs should offer the low end of reported (like 5mm, or even a bit less) for 6 years - force Subban to sell one of his UFA years. Otherwise, if the Habs get what they want, they either have a true elite #1 Dman, and even a bigger headache signing him in 3 years (risking an offersheet), or they have saved themselves from mild overpayment of a serviceable top 4 Dman. Both sides need to take some ownership of this thing and just get it done, or trade Subban to the Wings.

if I was the GM it would be 3 years for 4.5 million each or sit at home all season.

No one's gonna be throwing offer sheets comming off a 3 month lockout. Subban will sit all season long.

Subban is your second best player. 5.5M over a long term is great, if that is close to what he is demanding.

We keep hearing that its not about the money, its about the term. Habs want 3 years and he want 6. Who knows though

4 years takes him to UFA?...Bergevin isn't dumb, so that won't happen.

And I'm guessing he probably put a higher price for 6 years.

Anyone else feel that signing young defenseman is harder than forwards?

What I find interesting is Del Zotto and Luke Schenn both signed cheap. Del for 2.5 and Luke for 3.5ish? maybe more. Bergevin should use these contracts as good reasoning for not wanting to sign Subban to 5mil+.

said it before and was gawked at... will say it again...

If Subban was looking for 5.5 or under he would have been signed by now, he wants a PAY day and is looking for 6mill+

Never. Ever. In a million years. Couturier+, with a pretty big plus. Zero reason for the Habs to do this, every reason for the Flyers to do this.

They aren't comparable IMO.

Best comparable would be Carlson.

MDZ was struggling the year before, so he got a fair deal.

Schenn gave one UFA year...and his deal came after a good year.

Subban has been very consistent with the Habs and is better than both.
