The Business of HockeyDiscuss the financial and business aspects of the NHL. Franchise sales, valuations, TV contracts, ratings, expansion, relocation, the CBA and work stoppage discussion goes here.
Here's an update on the Devils.
Allowing season ticket holders to purchase additional seats to games at a discount... which does nothing for casual fans.
Sounds like the Preds are doing the same. I disagree, though...I think this is a good idea to bring in casual fans and should be done more often. It gives the diehards a good outlet to get the fans who haven't witnessed live hockey, the STH's passion, a chance to do so.
Half a day into the first day of single-game ticket sales, and Chief Operating Officer Matt Majka says the Wild's already had the biggest "on-sale" day in franchise history.
Majka wouldn't provide a figure, but he says he is blown away.
Quote:
Also, as all the Hockey Lodge locations hold a 50% off sale today on in-stock merchandise, it's clear items are flying off the shelves. From my eyes at the X, it's been beyond packed. And reports and pictures from Twitter demonstrate the same thing at the other locations.
Posters are saying there were 1-2 hour waits to check out and the shops were picked over like mad.
With the offseason signings, the Wild also picked up 4,000 new season ticket holders.
It's just frustrating after so long, and so many people supporting them, this is how they repay the fans.
By pricing most of them out of the game. Bravo.
I've been looking at Stubhub and it seems that (aside from the banner raising game) that you can still get decent tickets in the upper deck for less then $25 each and tickets in the lower bowl for under $75 each so I think it is still reasonably affordable compared to many markets.
Jackets opener all but sold out, just a few scattered singles left. Other games going well too, season ticket sales are actually up....all this for a team that everyone but the locals have picked to finish dead last.........again!
the Devils are failing miserably at this, not shocked though.
Besides the aforementioned 50% ticket discount for STHs (which is great)...nothing
Well that's better than what the Rangers are giving. They are giving nothing. What a shocker.

PollakOnSharks 4:56pm via Web #SJSharks say all but 200 tickets sold for home opener 1/24 vs. PHX, but another 800 set aside per NHL requirement could be available later.
(Tickets went on sale this morning.)
Habs are offering what seems to be the norm for this year.
a) Open to public intra-team scrim today - 17/01 - (includes ONE popcorn, chips and soda).
b) Open to public Centre Bell at 9AM saturday, 19th January, to allow fans to attend both Habs and Leafs team morning practices (includes ONE popcorn, chips and soda).

d) The admission to Habs Hall of Fame will be free on 19th and 20th of January

As your fans prepare for the opening face-off of the 2012-13 season, we thank you for your patience and we apologize to you for the time we've missed. From today forward, we will do everything we can to make this season worth the wait.
We are committed to earning back your trust and support the same way it's earned on the ice: with hard work and unwavering dedication. Your cheers drive us forward, and we're committed to making you proud to be a fan -- by delivering a game with the action, the skill and the intensity you deserve.
Like you, we've missed NHL hockey. We've missed the clutch goals, the big hits, the electrifying saves. We've missed the flash of the red light, the sound of the sire, and the way the building shakes when the home team scores.
It's time to focus on the best athletes in the world, on the enduring greatness of the game, and -- above all -- on the connection that binds fans, players and families everywhere. NHL hockey is the best in the world. The future is incredibly bright. So let's drop the puck and marvel at all the remarkable things the players do with it.
With respect and appreciation,
The National Hockey League
P.S. The teams are planning special events and unique opportunities to welcome you back. We hope you'll get in on the action. And again, thank you.
