I don't see why they would take a chance on Gomez unless they want MacKinnon centering the third line next season or a Jones-Johnson pairing. I don't get why an of us Avs fans actually think we can bring Gomez in and he'll do fine. What has he done in the past 2-3 years that makes anyone think he can bounce back? Rather bring in Montreal Stars forward Meghan Agosta then Montreal Canadien forward reject Scott Gomez.

Zero chance any team claims him off waivers.

Maybe New Jersey or Phoenix would have interest post buyout.

Would a team trying to reach the cap floor claim him off of waivers? Get the high cap-hit, with less actual dollars being paid out. Cap hit is $7.35M for this year and next, but actual salary is $5.5 and $4.5.

At first, i really thought you guy took my bait and replied to me seriously...

Then i come to the evidence that you was just replying in the same humorous spirit, faking serious reply.

Well done guy, you made me smile!

Or if he went to NYR and played a shut down 2nd line center role putting up even 60 points on the way to the cup.

Hell, Montreal fans would nearly piss themselves if he managed 10 goals this upcoming season.

Don't understand why other fans think we will be pissed if he scores x goal elsewhere.

We don't care about him anymore. He could score 25 goals, it's still not worth 7.3 millions ...

all teams are above the floor, if they were not someone would trade for thomas and his $5 million dollar cap hit that they do not have to pay any money out of pocket too cause he is suspended.

NJ will not even consider him. If they did not decide to bring back Sykora who put up 46 points in 82 games last year, no way they bring back scotty. Lou specifically said he wants the young guys to play and get their crack in the league and see what they got to offer. The likes of Tedenby, Josefson, Butler,

In 48 games? It would be worth that kind of salary yes.

No worries, I don't even think he'll play in the NHL this season.

It would have been nice if he actually did that. All he ever needed to do was gain the line, that's all we ever asked for. Unfortunately he had a nasty habit of thinking he could shoot and then turn it over.

I agree, I am cheering for Gomez to succeed and I couldn't be happier if he revitalizes his career.

shutdown role? 50-70 pts? has anyone actually watched this guy play the last 18 months? he's an old 33. that said, I think he'd flourish in an anonymous market like Phoenix or in the familiarity of NJ. But I would expect his numbers to top out at like 12-25-37 pts maybe on a 3rd line, with 2nd line / pp spot duty

My guess is either NJ or Phoenix
If he goes back to NJ it will be for nostalgic/comfort reasons, does anyone really think he would beat out that rookie of the year nominee Landeskog beat out? Henr-something...

Edit: (Yes I know hes injured, but it's not expected to be that long of a recovery, probably back by Feb.)

In all seriousness I hope Colorado signs him, it would at the very least send the message to O'Reilly that Colorado is having no part of handing him a 5M AAV contract. If O'Reilly snaps out of it and signs, then he can be traded or used on the fourth line. Or O'Reilly can be traded...

Not sure Lou would, but I hope he signs with the Devils. He can be our 2nd line center with Elias on the wing and Henrique on the other side (healthy). If he stinks we can just cut him. Low risk - High Reward.

I could see the Hurricanes inquiring. Our team, at least for just this year, need a 3rd line center badly. Gomez may be a terrible top 6er, but he could be just what a team like us needs in the third line. Either that, or we go for a young trade/internal asset w/o the stopgap.

He could be serviceable at 1-2 million

Not 7 (cap hit) or even 5.5 or 4.5 he was to get this year and next

Serviceable at a low cap hit. Anything else is insane.
