I don't want to start drafting until I know who is in my division though.
Yes, for sure. That's completely accurate. We will be making division assignments before drafting.

Are we doing the traditional thing where divisions are determined by draft order?

yeah , tomorrow for the lottery sounds great , but if we're to do this , please let's announce it tonight at the latest. We complained enough about how the last one was rushed so let's give at least 16 hours between the announcement and the lottery.

Let's consider this the announcement. If it has to be rescheduled, then it has to be rescheduled.

Yes. Some of us have expressed interest in choosing our own divisions.

There are only FOUR teams per division!! The difference between a division of death and an easy division could be razor thin. Everyone would be happy with where their team was if either

a) they could sign-up to the division of their choice (we did this before in minor league drafts and it worked well);

or

b) an opt out/request early transfer option, where teams could SWAP divisions (trade by agreement with another team) PRIOR to the start of the draft, of course.

Option b) would be the best. Its a good compromise.

I remember option A leading to the most lopsided draft ever, where everyone flocked to the division that was perceived as easier. I still don't know why people were against picking your draft position, but picking your division actually does skew things.

Option B is totally compatible with giving out the original division order based on draft order and I'm fine with it as long as there's a deadline.

The natural deadline would be the start of the draft! (which assumedly would be at least 48 hours after the draft order/divisional placement had been determined; as long as there is two days to swap divisions if one wants, that's enough time to PM another team and get an agreement to trade divisions).

since people voted for the draft to be random , I don't see why the divisions shouldn't be random as well.

Because if GMs think their team is in a division of death, option b gives them a CHOICE. If everybody is satisfied with their divisional placement then nobody will swap divisions. Option b is a freedom to do option IF a team wants to. It's WIN-WIN.

i dont understand why the divisions has anything to do with the playoff match-up , in the NHL it doesn't change anything and it's fairer that way , the best teams at the top facing each others in the end of the draft

only conferences matters

To you! ... under option b you jafar could ask if another team in the other conference wishes to swap, then do it! (within the time window before the draft is set to begin of course)

WIN-WIN!

tell me how locking teams within division to kill each others is fairer than letting the teams simply get ranked for what they are really worth compared to the entire draft?

Huh? To be clear: The divisions WILL be set before the draft. The only question was whether to LET teams swap divisions prior to the draft. Your team's division will be assigned initially by draft position.

e.g.

1st overall into Jim Robson division
2nd overall into Rene Lecavalier division
3rd overall into Foster Hewitt division
4th overall etc

Barring any last minute vote swings, the voting so far is indicating that the divisional names in the quest for the Milt Dunnell Cup will likely be:

The 2013 All-Time Draft

Red Fisher Conference

Foster Hewitt Division
Jim Robson Division
James Creighton Division
Louis Magnus Division

Jim Coleman Conference

Bob Cole Division
Rene Lecavalier Division
Ray Scapinello Division
Sam Pollock Division

it sounds impossible until we figure out who our 32 teams will be.

Would you join the draft if there was a Dink division?

(There is always MLD 2013 for new names to be added.)

We could make it the no-trade division.
