You mean other than needing a GM? I could list a dozen reasons to keep Howson around if I thought about it for 10 minutes. Don't confuse that with the 50 I could find to remove him. Davidson is going to make on-going decisions on the GM and that doesn't mean he's going to make the decisions we think he will.

Frankly, I don't understand your reasoning here. Actually I don't get the entire point of your post honestly. You are making it a foregone conclusion that Davidson is not going to build a good working relationship with Howson. You have no idea what he is thinking. It's not like he's actually done anything meaningful and visible to the fans yet.

People are always privately thinking and doing what I want them to be thinking and doing or what I would think or do in their place.

TSN's Top 10 goals between the lockouts. A certain former Jacket makes the list at #5 and should have been at least one spot higher, IMO.

Thanks for sharing.

What has always made that goal special to me was not just the athleticism, but the time and circumstances. Amazing.

20:1 just to win the division? Man, I need to start betting or something.

+475 just to make the playoffs at all...no respect at all.

Anyone up for some Rodney Dangerfield avatars?

How do you calculate the odds on those? What does it mean for the +475? It also shows the over/under as (-115)...just not sure what they mean

Bet 100 to make 475. Bet the - amount to make 100.

It has to do with amount wagered to win an additional $100 (-), or what $100 would net you (+).

For the Pacific Division, their odds are:
Phoenix Coyotes +800
San Jose Sharks +275
Los Angeles Kings -125
Dallas Stars +800
Anaheim Ducks +800

What that means is that $100 on any of Phoenix, Dallas, or Anaheim would get your $100 back, plus $800 if they actually win the division. San Jose would return an additional $275. But for Los Angeles, which is -125, it means you'd have to bet $125 to get your cash plus $100. That's how the +/- works in sports betting.

The odds themselves are calculated in-house. The idea of a sportsbook (the sports betting section in a casino) is to split the cash 50:50. Since even odds are normally -105 or -110, they're guaranteed to win if the cash gets split. If that means that 5,000 people bet $100 on one thing to happen and one guy bets $500,000 on the other, the casino is happy. So they try to find that perfect spot to split where the money is likely to go. Sports Illustrated actually did an article on how this is done a few years back; I think it was called "The Perfect Number".

Ok, gotcha, so all the numbers posted are based on a $100 bet. Is that all you can bet for it, or could you put say $20 on it? I certainly wouldnt put 100 on the Jackets, but hey, 20 would be worth the risk Im on Bovada, but for poker....never really did sports bets before

Since I don't bet on sports, I couldn't tell you how they specifically do things. But if I remember correctly, the ratios would hold true for any amount laid...casinos would be only too happy to take your $1,000 or $25,000 bet.

I remember reading a book about how Vegas sets the football line. Early on Sunday night they take their best guess on what it will take to get the even split Mayor mentioned. Then they release the line to a select group of professional gamblers who bet into the line which is adjusted until the bets are pretty much 50/50. I think the book was written way back in 1973 called the The National Football Lottery. According to Amazon you can pick up a used copy for a penny. Must not have helped the seller too much.

With that in mind, we know these are not the droids we are looking for. We've seen the truth.

Predict some off-the-wall moves. Mine is that Philly buys out Bryz and trades for Luongo

I think Lou is drunk, he just gave Travis Zajac an 8 year deal worth $46 million.

Makes the RJ deal look like a bargain.

Looks like he'll need to package salary with another first-rounder just to clear space again.

Not sure if this is old news but just saw that Willie Mitchell had surgery. Could be out a month. Don't like to see anyone get hurt, etc but this could help LA get off to a slower start.
