7 Goalies, 7 New Homes

Islanders: Bernier
Blackhawks: Thomas
Panthers: Luongo
Blue Jackets: Nabokov/Vokoun
Oilers: Nabokov/Vokoun
Lightning: Halak/Backstrom
Maple Leafs: Halak/Backstrom

I tried to avoid intra-conference trades, which I believe most GMs would want to avoid at such a critical position.

I have no idea what would be needed it terms of assets exchanged, but do those matches fit?

Thomas would be better than what we have, but I would rather try to get someone else who can help us out in 3-5 years when all of our prospects should be ready to go.

So Columbus trades two under-25 starters to get one of two starters over 35?

Interesting.

Dear HFBoards,

Not interested in Bernier. Poulin/Nilsson are very highly regarded with the Islanders, they'll be the goalies of the future.

What is Poulin's ceiling? just curious.
Don't know enough about him.

No thanks. Nabokov has been very good for the NYI. No complaints going into this season, with Nabokov getting 35-40 starts and letting the young goalies Nilson/Poulin/Koskinen continue to develop.

Uh, not that I disagree with the premise of your post, but you're talking about two U-25 guys who have 6 seasons between them, 4 of which have seen them amongst the bottom 5 at their position.

2. BRIDGEPORT: With the addition of Steve Valiquette as the Islanders’ new goalie consultant, his expertise and mentoring skills will vastly benefit the behemoth and rock-solid tandem of Kevin Poulin and Anders Nilsson. Both guys are legitimate future NHL stars, and either one can be considered the “starter” on this team at any time.

We'd happily take Nabokov, but I doubt NYI would happily give him up. (And trading both Mason and Bob is not something that would be productive for Columbus or acceptable to NYI, I think.)

I personally think he can be a star. Patrick Roy said he's the best goaltender he's seen in the QMJHL excluding... himself . If Poulin works a little more on his consistency, he'll be a great goaltender.

I'm trying to figure out why Backstrom, Vokoun, Nabokov and Thomas are included in this list. Is this supposed to happen over a couple years or what?

Now that Harding was diagnosed with MS, I don't see the Wild letting Backstrom go until two of Hackett, Kuemper or Gustaffson are ready to go.

Pittsburgh just acquired Vokoun to either push Fluery to become better, or take his starting job if he falters again.

Nabokov is really NYI's only goalie option at this point.

Thomas will either play for Boston (next year, of course) or retire. That's it.

I'm not sure the Blues are interested in trading Halak either after what they gave up to get him not too long ago.

Halak is not available neither are quite a few of the goalies on your list it's a pretty horrid list to be honest. Luongo and Bernier may be traded. Thomas is sitting the season out it seems still.

Last season, Evgeni Nabokov (37 years old):
42gp - 41gs - 2.55gaa - 0.914sp

Vokoun (36 years old):
48gp - 46gs - 2.51gaa - 0.917sp

Devan Dubnyk (26 years old):
47gp - 42gs - 2.67gaa - 0.914sp

Given the age of Edmonton's core, why would Edmonton move assets for either player, when they have Dubnyk?

this.

also, as someone stated earlier, why would Pittsburgh move Vokoun? they JUST got him this past summer. they traded for him for a reason. he's supposed to knock Fleury on the bench if Fleury gets complacent and unmotivated again.

Soo what's the point of this? They're not even proposals, you're just randomly suggesting teams pick up a new goalie for the heck of it, even if acquiring said goalie doesn't make sense.

In the only game I ever watched him play he was incredible making some where around 50 saves and letting in only 3 goals. This was against the 2010-2011 Canucks as well, for what its worth.
