Sorry if that has been stated in the thread (because I'm in a rush) but I saw that Subban wants 5 years and the Habs want 3 years. I think Subban wants 5 years because by the time that contract is over, he can enter the free agent market and gain more interest which equals more dollars (depending on his level of play).
Just my opinion......

Just because its happened before, doesn't mean it'll happen again. Is every good, young defenseman destined to be like Phaneuf?

Not at all. The similarities are there though. Breaks into the league at a young age, ego/attitude, "rumoured" locker room problems, ect. Not saying he isnt a good defenseman but he's not as good as he thinks he is.

I think PK is going to be an absolute stud. Maybe not worth a big contract just yet, and I think he should earn it before he gets it, but I think he's significantly better than DZ so I would expect at least 3.5M if he's signing 2-3 years and in the 4+ range if he's signing long term. I would LOVE to see him leave the Habs though (hate the Habs). Just so long as it's not to go to NJ lol

I wouldn't trade for Couturier. For PK we'd need to trade for an established player like Benn, a top young forward at the same stage of his career.

I'll never understand NHL GMs for this. They are all about "respect" and about not poaching other teams young talent..It's B.S it's in the rules so why not do it. In the NBA it happens every summer, at least one or two young players sign offer sheets. But like I said it's the NHL, GM's are buddy buddy and they think they hold a bigger responsibility towards "respecting" other teams than improving their own. In a way it's almost collusion.

No way we offer sheet him. Burke was totally against them and I see Nonis the same way.

Then he turns into the next Komisareck and we get the next Seguin from your pick.

The Habs cannot afford to lose P.K. He will be signed in a few weeks.

Habs would desperately need a good dman in return if he were dealt.

However, he'll probably be signed Friday.

A few weeks? If MTL had any sense they wouldn't wait that long.

I like pk but I've lost a lot of respect I had for him during this whole process. Hopefully they can agree before Saturday.

I'm not an expert on the Wings cap situation - but I'd bet they've got plenty of room to pay Subban $6M. They're going to cycling through a lot of the older players currently on the roster with their prospects, and that (along with Lidstrom's cap space) would leave them plenty of room for Subban.

Like I said before - it's a low probability, but there are definetely teams that desperately need a guy like PK, and could easily afford to make an 5 year offersheet in the $5.5-6.5M range.
even if the Flyers did buy-out Brière - his salary would still count against the cap.

unless they can trade some salary, i don't see it happening.

as for Detroit... they do have the space for this year; but they have a lot of players to resign for next year. and with the cap space going down to $64.3M - it would make for a tight fit.

http://www.capgeek.com/redwings/

i doubt Detroit would pull the trigger - but i mos def don't see how Philly could.

Doesn't matter because of collusion. No one is going to offer sheet him unfortunately

I think you underestimate how good Edler is.

However, you are right. Straight up is not an even trade.

A 5.5.mil whatever term montreal wants signed Edler plus

1st rounder in 2013

2nd rounder in 2013

I think is a fair deal for Subban. Whether the Canadiens want it or not is debatable but the value is fair.

PK Subban thinks he's a lot better than he actually is. Meehan comparing his contact request to Hall, Seguin, Eberle and Skinner is ridiculous.

Montreal's kind of over a barrel though because they really need him.

From Elliotte Friedman's 30 thoughts:

Quote:
1. After Brian Burke's Saturday media conference, one source came up with an actual sensible reason for the timing of the change. It sounds like the Toronto Maple Leafs new ownership disagreed with Burke's CBA philosophies -- the unwillingness to use bonuses, back-diving contracts and offer sheets among other things. It's about using your resources to the fullest extent. In the new deal, there are further limitations, but still advantages to being a financial powerhouse (bonuses, for example, were not touched). If this is true, we're going to see a change in the way Toronto does business.

it is fair value. but we love PK here and everything he brings on the ice.

as good as Edler is - we don't have the Sedins here. i can't imagine Edler producing as much with the Habs as he has done with the Canucks.
