JVR just never seemed to mentally make the transition to the NHL game. He was always trying cute stuff that worked for him in college (but would never work in the pros) in the offensive zone and would usually end up frustrated and just start ripping wrist shots from the blue line as soon as he crossed it (like Carter). I personally think staying in college ruined him - the CHL and AHL would have taught him so much more about what it takes to transition creativity to the actual ice surface in the pros, imo.

That being said, its never too late for the "switch" to get flipped... and we all know he has the physical traits to be successful in spades.

Short-term Flyer Sean O'Donnell retired today.

He spent last season with Chicago.

Kulikov+ Subban are not close on deals with their respective teams. Now I believe Subban would cost more to acquire, but actually like Kulikovs overall game almost as much as Subban. I think Kulikov(along with many others) believe he can be a star in this league. Offer sheets won't work, because we would be doing the work for Tallon if we went that way. We would need to trade for him. I think if Kulikov's situation doesn't improve in sometime they might entertain the thought of moving him.

Saw this also and laughed at everyone who thought we could trade him for something. He just isn't a good player. Fringe NHLer at best.

What's that, HF severely overvaluing our own players?! Always good times!

I think something big went down in the NHL today. I can't get on the main boards.

Jeez that's an overpayment

Edit - the entire Devil's board is ecstatic. I'm kinda shocked, 8 years at 5.75/per year is a good deal? The guy scored 42 points in his last full season. He had a couple 60 point seasons before, but with the cap going down next year, that doesn't seem to justify $5.75 million

It's really not that bad..

He averaged 58 points over the past 3 full seasons he played 82 games.

Last year he had 6 points in 15 games but 14 points in 24 games.

He's also pretty good defensively

especially compared to the Hall contract.

126 games played with 95 points and got a 7 year 6m per deal.

Seems a little high for Zajac. Same cap hit as Mike Richards.

Zajac's last 3 healthy seasons:
82 GP, 62 P
82 GP, 67 P
82 GP, 44 P

Richard's last 3 seasons:
82 GP, 62 P
81 GP, 66 P
74 GP, 44 P

They are literrally the same player.

I feel like Richards has way better playoff numbers though.

'Last healthy seasons' is the kicker, though.

They signed him to an 8 year deal coming off of major surgery (and a subsequent early return, which resulted in even more time missed); I guess it's a risk you take to secure a good player long term... just seems a little expensive to me.
