With whom? I don't see him getting a contract until after the season starts. Maybe Vancouver at league minimum to fill the injury holes?

I'm sure someone will pick him up after we buy his contract out. I would guess 1y/1m to Calgary or something along those line.

I think a team will sign him. Maybe back to the Devils who can use help since they lost Parise and Henrique is injured, Islanders, Canucks don't have Kesler and lost Booth. For minimum, someone will pick him up

Wade Redden has also been waived

Both players will clear and find work for minimum with another club

Bet he goes to New Jersey after he clears, their offense is pretty terrible so I can see them taking a shot on him.

If he has more than one suitors, I could see him chosing to go west instead to avoid coming back at the Bell Centre this year...

Luckily for us Gainey is no longer working for the Canadiens. Dallas, brace yourself... here comes Gomez!

Unless LL is still ticked that he left UFA for NYR. Always hard to tell...

Somebody will sign Gomez. I think Gomez should watch a bit for the right opportunity, though. And not care about salary (heck, he's making plenty from us, after all). If a contender like Vancouver offers him a deal at $525k, take it, even if somebody else is offering $1M+. The right situation should be everything to him now.

Teams can't sign a player they bought out using compliance buyouts until after the 2013-2014 season.

Habs aren't allowed to acquire him for a full year.

Not sure if it wouldn't be until 2 season's from now since compliance buyouts were only supposed to come in effect by the end of this season.

Gomez will get full salary + extra with another team 2.

I think he'll sign with a western team.
this is what players get for being so bad that teams want to get rid of them? it seems wrong to me.

Both parties agreed to a contract. If we want to terminate the contract, we must pay up.

Redden and Gomez were given an extra gift that wasn't in their contracts because the PA pulled a tantrum in their favor. The habs were taking their lumps by paying him his salary and telling him to go home. The habs were doing their part of the bargain.

I think Redden will get more than minimum, probably $1M prorated.

I would imagine since they are released from their contract early that it would mean the quarantine period starts now. It doesn't really matter though since we wouldn't ever want to pick him up.

I don't know if it was posted but

Elliotte Friedman ‏@FriedgeHNIC
Gomez will be paid prorated $5.5M this season. Canadiens will buy him out of final year at $4.5M (2/3s of the money over twice the term).

So 5.5 is not so bad.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
Multiple teams considering options on both. LA, STL, TOR, FLA among those kicking tires on Redden, ANA and CAR among those considering Gomez

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
No guarantees but Wade Redden may agree to terms with an NHL team as early as tonight. Gomez not likely tonight but in next day or so.

Can someone help clarify what this means in terms of our cap space. (How much more do we have if he gets "claimed"?) Did we buy him out YET or does that only happen if/when another team signs him? Is he essentially a free agent who gets to chose the deal he wants? If so, does another team basically get Gomez at a low price (great for them!)? Do we then have his salary off the books (while Molson dishes out to pay his previous contract)? I'm pretty useless when it comes to understanding these cap thing. Would appreciate some enlightenment.

TSN is reporting that the Habs have bought him out now. As for the cap hit, this year we have his full $7.357 million on the books minus $900k for waiving him but next year we'll have nothing on the cap hit regarding Gomez.
