Ludicrous? You're looking at a top 5 goalie with years left for players that may not even make the NHL.

No less ludicrous as Connolly, Komisarek and a 2nd.

Komeserek + Bozak + conditional 3rd is all you are getting Vancouver.

lol @Rielly, Gards, and even Kadri going to Vancouver.

Love how Vancouver fans completely ignore Lu's contract as if it's not a big
deal cause the Leafs are the richest teams.

Bell and Rogers will zap your bum straight to collections after a 2 months of missed
payments, and eradicate long term employee benefits. ROFLcoptor you think they will eat up tens of millions for a goalie that chokes when it counts. Talk about anti clutch.

Can't wait till Vancouver fans see what the return actually is

I kind of disagree in principle. The Leafs are getting closer to where they want to be but the goaltending is a mess, and Vancouver has a complete team (injuries aside) in place so there is room to be flexible over what they receive for their spare starting goalie.

Where they may not be good trading partners comes down to the wants and needs of the teams respective GM's. But on paper from a fantasy hockey perspective there's plenty of room here for fan discussion.

Oh come on. Yes he is.

Make all the Luongo hating playoff jokes that you will. He is a top 5 NHL goalie and he's proven it.

In no particular order:

Luongo, Lundqvist, Quick, Rinne, Miller.

Well, we aren't the ones that will make the trade.
Canucks fans want to get the most out of the trade because it might define a big return for now and our future. Leaf fans want to make the trade to get a goaltender but don't want to pay a high price.

It's like this: Leaf fans want Canuck fans to take these negatives into consideration:

Luongo's Age
Contract
Possibility of declining play.

And now, Canuck fans want Leaf fans to take these positives into consideration:

Lack of Elite goalies on the Market.
Friendly Cap Hit
Current consistent Top 10 play in the regular season.

Now let's say that Canucks fans lower their price because hey, some of your points are right. Will Leaf fans raise their price because some of our points are right? No, of course no. That's not being a smart business man, that's just being a pushover and a nice guy.

So we can sit here and argue all we want but it still won't matter because truly there is no middle ground as much as you negotiate. It's honestly who breaks first.

I can, easily. It's silly to think otherwise. Who would you rate above him? Lehtonen? Howard? Miller?

The best goalies in the NHL, imo, are:

Quick
Lundqvist
Rinne
Schneider
Luongo
Price

guys like Smith and Elliott are usually 1 year wonders, and rarely display the consistency shown by the above group. So if you want to rate a player like Rinne above Luongo, then sure, you can say he's top 6 instead of top 5.

Where would you rank him? I can see ranking him anywhere from 4th to 7th, but it is very hard to make a case for him being lower than 7th if you look at performance over the last few years.

A top 5 goalie over the past decade vs unproven prospects is crazy. You do realize that only 66% of all first rounders become career NHLers and only 25% of second rounders. Now just because they eventually play 200+ games to become a career player doesn't mean they hit their ceiling. Also, because that draft pick is protected, the Canucks shouldn't get any higher than a 16th overall pick. You are very fortunate to find elite talent beyond the top ten in any draft. Here is an example of what your team drafted in the 90's with picks between 16-30:
Grant Marshall
Landon Wilson
Eric Fichaud
Luca Cereda

The Canucks would likely end up with one second line player and a third pairing defenseman out of this, but it would serve us down the road. Stop acting like you are giving us 3 roster players or future stars. There is equal risk to us taking on prospects and picks.

What case can you make for Miller, Ward, and Kipper being definitely better than Luongo?

Are they better regular season goalies? No.

I think combined, those three goalies have won two playoff series over the last five years, so you can't give them extra points for playoff performance either.

Although I agree Luongo may be around the top 5 in goalies, you can't deny his contract. If he was on a two or three year deal, there would be a ton of teams interested.

Price is a debatable case. I'd say he surpasses Lu this year, if he has not already.

The rest? A shame facts to do support your theory. So I can believe you or my lying eyes. Although, I will concede Fluery is better... he let in 30+ goals compared to Lu's 22+

If that is your top 5, you obviously have Luongo ahead of Schneider. You could get a lot more for Schneider than Lu, so why would you trade Luongo instead?

No, you'd be talking about how he would be a UFA by the time the Leafs are ready to contend.

Some of us would rather keep Luongo. However, everyone accepts that Gillis is moving forward with Schneider.

Schneider is younger and of comparable skill. Think of it as a future investment; Schneider allows us to compete for longer. Personally, I would trade him instead of Luongo but unless Gardiner+ is coming back. It will not happen.

Would Canucks' fans care to provide a single professional source that has Luongo in the top 5 after the 2012 playoffs?

It has been reported that Toronto already offered Bozak + Kadri which Gillis refused. So, um, yeah, "lol @'Kadri going to Vancouver".
As for the rest of your post - "goalie that chokes", "terrible contract" - it has been discussed and refuted ad nauseam in these threads. Yet, we still get geniuses like you, coming in here, making ridiculous comments like that. Too lazy to read the thread or just trolling? Hard to tell.
