We're all worried enough as it is and you have to go there.

What is going on? Didn't the Sharks' season end in April? It's been over 8 months. Did Burns injure something else?

Bit by a snake. Beats me why he hasn't been skating these few days even though he had been previously.

So if this was a full season, would Burns have already missed ~40 games? Or am I misunderstanding his issues?

Pelech, McCarthy & Kearns were all placed on waivers today.

I think that just leaves McLaren that would have to clear waivers to go to the AHL- or maybe he's sticking around as an extra forward.

Wasn't Kearns the only competition for Sheppard for that last bottom six spot? I guess Sheppard has it locked up. McLaren is the extra forward for matchups that require fighting.

Is Petrecki still up there?

I'd assume so, along with Irwin. Tennyson (I believe) is waiver-exempt, so he could vanish at a moment's notice unlike the others.

Petrecki doesn't have an NHL contract.

Both Tennyson and Irwin are waiver exempt.

Good call on Petrecki. Speaking of contracts, have we got Shep signed up?

I'm surprised Irwin is still safe. Good for us in any case.

David Pollak ‏@PollakOnSharks From today's Merc: How the #SJSharks plan to fix that penalty kill that was 29th in NHL last season. http://www.mercurynews.com/sharks/ci_22390086/san-jose-sharks-look-at-how-fix-their …

Quote:
The plan?

"I could talk about what we'd like to do up-ice and what we'd like to do on entries and faceoffs, but it would be a not-very-smart decision to share that," coach Todd McLellan said Wednesday. "The general theme is we'd like to be a more assertive, more aggressive penalty kill."

This doesn't necessarily mean he'll be sent to Worcester.
I haven't actually read the new CBA but I believe they have 10 days to send him down (I could be totally wrong here).

Yah I know Petrecki is not eligible for waivers, I was just wondering if he's sticking around because his play warrants it so far. That kid really has to show he belongs this season or he's for sure going to get the 'bust' label.

Looks like he's sticking w/ the NHL club, at least for a little while. He's been signed to a 1 year, 2 way contract.

Seems as though the roster is pretty much set with Pelech, Tennyson and McCarthy being returned to Worcester. San Jose will carry 14 (inc. Sheppard, Kearns, McLaren) forwards, 7 d-men and 2 goalies and Demers and Burns on IR.

So what are we thinking at this point?:

Marleau - Thornton - Pavelski
Clowe - Couture - Havlat
Galiardi - Handzus - Wingels
Desjardins - Sheppard - Burish
McLaren, Kearns

Irwin - Boyle
Stuart - Vlasic
Murray - Braun
Irwin, Petrecki
?

When healthy D should be more like:

Vlasic - Burns
Stuart - Boyle
Murray - Demers
Bruan, Irwin, Petrecki

My biggest concern is the speed of our forwards still. You've still got Clowe, Handzus, Pavelski, Couture, in the top 9... D is looking good though for the most part.

The forward lines and D pairs have pretty much been the same from day 1 of camp:

Top 2 lines...
Galiardi/Zus/Wingels
Kearns(?)/Desi/Burish
Sheppard/McLaren

Irwin-Boyle
Vlasic-Stuart
Murray-Braun
Petrecki

Robinson and Johnson have been advocating quick passing and decision-making to make up for foot speed, so Pavelski and Couture aren't problems. Handzus and Clowe though...
I'm a bit concerned about Clowe. How has he been looking at camp? His off-season training is never "great" and he never really starts the season off well which will be a problem in a shortened season.

Dave Lozo ‏@DaveLozo Everyone seems pretty down on the Sharks this year. I don't get it. I like'em.

You've got Havlat healthy, Handzus can't be worse, Galiardi with a fresh start, Thornton, Marleau, Pavelski, Boyle, Clowe. How do they miss?

The Sharks' top-5 d right now are Boyle, Murray, Stuart, Burns (if healthy) and Vlasic. It's not murderer's row but it's pretty good.

Niemi is above average. Greiss should be a good backup. It just seems like everyone is picking them to finish like 11th in the West.
