Maple Leafs waive Tim Connolly

Seems too soon for it to be an injury.

Though, it is Tim Connolly.

Much like Matthew Lombardi, he is expandable if the young kids (Kadri, Colborne, Frattin) are going to get minutes.

Nobody seems to know what's going on.

Awful

They better be taking Frolik contract if the Hawks do them such a favor

Agreed, I had concerns about it being overpayment. You're right, Frolik straight up is more than fair.

Not gonna happen. We will most likely retain 2M of the cap hit if we want to trade him. If he gets traded, it will be to clear up a roster spot, so we can't take any bodies back.

Plus he's a FA at the end of the year, so there's minimum baggage.

Eating salary/cap space in trades is a new toy for Leafs management.

Connolly is on his last contract year. I'm sure the Leafs would eat partial hit/salary (ala Lombardi), but if he's dealt, it will be for a pick not a player.

Going on waivers possibly.

Tim Connolly not on the ice at Leafs practice. It's expected Connolly will be placed on waivers. More opportunity for players in system.

Practice, we're talking about practice, not a game, practice.

I'd say the market has pretty much been set by the Lombardi deal. Connolly probably has more trade value due to superior on-ice performance last season but makes slightly more. So the draft pick will likely be a conditional 2nd if Toronto eats a large portion of the salary, or a conditional 3rd (like the Lombardi deal) if Toronto eats a smaller portion of the salary.

EDIT: Haha - or not. Guess he's a buy-out candidate. Surprising, honestly.

Being waived.

If Toronto were willing to keep 50% of his salary - or maybe 30% then I think he'd be a more attractive proposition. Had we not already had Brandon Sutter then I would've said that we should go for him but we don't have the room.

Nope. Phoenix is done. At least until Raffi Torres returns eight games into this ridiculous season in which that span will represent twenty percent of the entire thing. Stupid, pointless lock-out.
