Yes, but it's what comes after waivers that counts. He probably won't get claimed. So what does Toronto do then? Send an email to the 29 other GMs announcing a 1/2 off sale to the highest bidder (bidding starts at a conditional 4th)? Or have they already tried that and are now waiving him for the purpose of buying him out?

If he was waived today, isn't it too late to buy him out? I thought players who are being bought out had to clear by today.

Toronto should just unleash their enourmous financial resource advantage to suck in all the worst contracts in the leauge and buy them out for draft picks. Toronto could go into the 2013 draft with 5 first rounders and since the CBA is brand new they can do this for another 8 to 10 years.

Are there no overpaid pending UFA D we could have traded him for? Ah well, waived is better then him still being on the team.

Guess the timing of the Burke firing is beginning to make sense. Burke would have had to admit a mistake here....Nonis does not.

1 year 4.75 million left on the contract right? Seems silly to waste one of the buyouts on that.

Averaged 70 games the past few years. Had 36 points last year. I could see someone taking him or at the very least trade for him with Leafs taking 500k of his salary or something.

This just in:

Tim Connolly has tripped over the waiver wire and will be out for the next 2-3 weeks with a lower body injury

Though, it is Tim Connolly.

Much like Matthew Lombardi, he is expandable if the young kids (Kadri, Colborne, Frattin) are going to get minutes.

Nobody seems to know what's going on.
lots of guys with groin pulls are popular right now

Surely they tried. His contract is a shame. He has value as a player.

I wouldn't call it tanking, did you see how bad Connolly was for us last season? Yes it's a chance for the young guys, its also getting rid of dead weight. The guy was invisible

How could there be zero market for this guy? I mean...yes, he's soft, but he's talented. I can't believe a GM didn't look at the team he was playing for last year and decide to give him a chance at 4.75 pro rated, even shipping a 2 million dollar contract back to Toronto to do it.

Strange stuff, there's got to be a team that sucks offensively and wouldn't mind giving him a try, no?

There isn't really a spot for him on the Leafs, especially if Carlyle sticks to having two top lines and two bottom lines.

Nonis has been busy cleaning up Burke's mistakes. Too bad they can't get the right to own Tyler Seguin back.

I'd say he has far more value as a defensive forward at this point. But, as such that contract and injury history sucks all the value out of that.

This is such good news IMO, if he is one of the compliance buy-outs, it once again opens up a roster spot and one again gives us more cap room, we are set up amazingly good going into this season and especially next. Big things are going to happen next summer IMO

I don't get the big sigh of relief from Leafers. It seemed like the entire fanbase was defending the signing when it happened. Oh well.
