It happens, I wouldn't write him off yet.

Tambo live on Hockey Central right now.

Some interesting things.

-Ralph was chosen as a HC for his diversity. Can deal with european players and Canadians..
-Nail has no pressure on him...different from the 3 other kids who were expected to produce immediately.
-The management team has pondered over some guys on waivers but happy with their 7 defensemen right now
-Dubnyk "without question" our #1 guy.

I dunno, I'm not saying he's a better checking but he is a much better player, I wouldn't mind having him as a utility second liner center, for when gags goes into ghost mode.

we have seen guys like Weiss going for 1sts as playoffs rentals before. (smyth, Bert, Weight, Tkachuk etc)
If Whitney rebounds to his old self, we could get a 1st for him at the deadline. Same goes for Smid.

A late 1st for playoffs rentals was a norm for contending teams.

Scratch Redden for #Oilers per Tambellini on @FAN590. Likes his top 7 D with Fistric add.

I am kind of happy about this news.

If you are worried about Gagner's ghost mode , check with TOR fans re Connolly.
Rather roll with Gagner than to get Connolly making our lineup even softer.

Ya, it is tough to say. On one hand, Weiss is a pretty solid offensive player that could definitely be the final piece to a team looking to make a run. On the other end, the draft is going to be very deep in the 1st round and I can't see many teams giving up their picks in the 1st round this year unless they are getting a very good player in return.

I suppose for a team that knows they are going to be picking in the 24-30 range barring a major upset, it could make sense, but even at that point there will be solid players left on June 30th.

Peckham will never see the NHL again, him and Stortini can reminisce about the good times when the oil sucked haha

Isn't every single draft a "very deep draft" in the months leading up to it?

all players you mention had a lot of PLAYOFF experience at the time they got traded--Weiss has 7 games

Nah, it's all depends where the leafs draft after the lottery is done.

A 1st at the deadline for Wiess is definitely on the mark. He's a top line center on a few teams (including his current team) and would be one of the better 2nd line centers in the league. And if a team adding him at the deadline has 2 very good Cs, then having Wiess on the 3rd line will cause a lot of matchup problems in the playoffs (like Carolina adding Weight in '06).

How much did Jokinen have when the Flames gave up Lombardi, Prust, and a 1st for him at the deadline?

Ahhh I knew that it didn't sound right. Always forget that there was two of them. Wonder if Anaheim claims him, just to see if playing with his brother will spark something? Chicago did it with Toews. Who knows?

I'd rather have Gagner in ghost mode than Connolly in IR mode! (Although he has been fairly healthy his past 3 seasons by his standards)

Most drafts are, yep. You would be correct. No one has had time to over analyze most of the players yet.

Contenders could care less about playoffs exp as long as you fit the role and give you a good shot at the cup. Only works if the role they seek is of someone who has playoffs exp.

I think a year out every draft is going to be deep with high end talent as well.

But I think at this time of the year, after the midseason rankings and just over 5 months before the draft we start to hear the real truth about the draft, similar to last year and the year before.

No one seems to be changing their tune about the depth and skill in the draft, and after watching a lot of junior games out west this year and the prospects game last night I tend to agree so far.

The elite talent is there, i.e. Mackinnon, Jones, Drouin, Barkov, Monahan, etc., but the depth in the 1st round seems very good.

Guys like Lazar, Erne, Nurse, Gauthier, Morrisey, Zadorov, and Rychel all looked pretty solid last night, and that's not even factoring in other Euros like Nichuskin, Lindholm, Ristolainen, etc. and guys that couldn't play, i.e. Shinkaruk, Pulock, etc.

I think this draft is the real deal right now in the top 50.

Maybe I'm a little mixed up, but wasn't Zajac suppose to be named captain? Kinda one of the reasons he was so valuable?
