None of them are hockey guys, but I read the last post as more general sports than hockey specific.

As has been talked about...groins going to be a huge injury this season.

David Booth just injured his during his physical, out 4 to 6 weeks.

During his physical? How does that even happen?

Or are they a lot different than what I'm thinking about?

I think the actual report was during testing. They do fitness testing that involves skating.

Ah, okay, that's what I was thinking. Thanks for clarifying.

Phoenix trade...

@DarrenDreger Leafs trade Lombardi to Phx for a conditional pick. Toronto also retains some salary in deal.

For any team but Phoenix it'd make sense. They're still way under the cap floor, and I don't remember that changing this year. You'd think they'd welcome the cap hit if anything.

? The floor is like 44 million. All the teams are easily above that.

Interesting article about Ribeiro growing up. Glad to here he's remarried.

Quote:
“I think if my habits were better when I was younger, once I retire I’m probably going to look back and say, ‘Well, if I would’ve committed 100 percent on both sides — on the ice, off the ice — I think I could’ve done a lot more,’” Ribeiro said. “That’s why I’m at a point now that, OK, I’m 32, do I want to still do what I was doing? Or do I want to become a better player and still play till I’m 38, 39?”

What the hell? I never knew he got divorced, much less remarried.

He tweeted about it. Without actually saying divorce or visitations, he'd talk about not getting to see his kids, and then he'd update play sessions when he did get to see them.

Based on that article, it seems that time apart was great medicine for him getting his stuff together. That's nice to see everything working out well though for him and his family.

Tim Connolly going on waivers ... could be a potential compliance buyout or he could clear and then be traded (potentially another salary retention move).

This one worries me a bit. GM Joe has shown he is willing to take the suggestions of his players in the past for potential roster moves (Ribs pushing for Ryder). Connolly has history with Roy, and with Benn still unsigned he could be a basically free option for help on the PP.

Connolly has traditionally earned his points on the PP, and Toronto gave him limited minutes last season. Mirtle makes some good points about why he actually had a pretty decent season considering he wasn't used properly by the Leafs.

More than likely there's no worry about Dallas taking a flyer on the guy, but his name did catch my eye when I saw the waiver report.

That said, if he cleared waivers and Toronto was willing to take a warm body, it might make sense to swap him for Nystrom. Nystrom was a decent player for Dallas last year, but he doesn't have a future here. I think it be a limited risk to try and add some scoring punch. If it doesn't work out, there are younger options to provide solid defensive play from the wing.

You potentially have a 3rd/4th line of Morrow-Fiddler-Connolly.

Isn't Connolly a center? That would seem to be the main argument for acquiring him.

He's played wing before, and he's a right shot. The only way I'd want to see them take a chance is if another veteran is going the other way.

Man I enjoyed watching this guy play at Miami (NCAA) with Reilly Smith:

Senators have waived Patrick Cannone. Why? I don't know. Great insight.
He didn't get the press of Miele and Camper, but he was a very good hockey player.

Connolly's hands are still the best in the NHL IMO. Or at least they were.

Want no part of him though.

He's a better option then Fiddler/Wandell on the 2nd line while Benn is unsigned. Then when Benn is signed it still gives them some good depth down the lineup. His contract ends this season so there is no risk whatsoever.

I'm really surprised the Leafs couldn't get anything for Connolly, he's a top 6 option even with his awful injury history.

They're trying to get someone to take him at full salary/cap hit. If and when he clears the Leafs will eat part of that and surely find a willing team.

As Liles tweeted earlier.. wonder if Pardy will blame the coaching staff in Buffalo like he did in Dallas.
