Every single one of them has had at least two players who were either nominees or winners of a major award. Why trade our 1st in a very good draft for a player who IS good, but not good enough to be a core piece on a SC contending team.

How comfortable would you feel with Benn as your guy to go toe to toe against Crosby? Toews? Quick? Chara? Datsyuk? etc? Because that's the calibre of player you need to win. Benn, Kessel? They are not that calibre of player.

Can't we PLEASE go two years in a row without trading a 1st round pick or top prospect? Toronto and it's fans ALWAYS look for quick fixes. Newsflash, it hasn't worked for a reason.

Now I'm not saying our 1st round pick WILL be a future major award winner, but at least it has a chance at that, considering how good the draft is and how poor our team is. It should ONLY be moved in a deal for a player with the potential to be or who already is of the calibre mentioned above, but players like that simply wouldn't be available unless for a massive overpayment.
I think where we are separated is our image of Benn. Benn is an incredible talent, great on both ends of the ice, good physical game, good for 60-70 points. That of course is Benn as of right now. He is 23 years old and looks to be growing his game every single year. It would not surprise me to see him break 80-90 points. I see Benn as a Kopitar lite with the potential to meet or exceed what Kopitar can become and that is worth a 1st and a top prospect.

As a Flyers fan that loves Kulikov, I am hoping Homer is keeping an eye on all these situations right now.

My offer for Kulikov would be:

Matt Read
Brandon Manning/Nick Cousins
2nd rounder
3rd rounder (2014)

For

Kulikov
some lower level prospect.

May as well throw out a hypothetical from the Flames, to be shot down as they generally are:

To Col:
Glencross
Cammalleri (Cgy keeps 2 million of his cap hit)
2013 3rd

To Cgy:
Ryan O'Reilly

You can also have Babchuk, if you want him.

Don't like the flyers at all but this is a massive overpayment for Kulikov, Cousins is sick and would of been on team Canada for the juniors this year if no for some legal issues going on right now

The only way we can get Subban signed is to move some salary back too. Orpik is a good physical player and you get a great prospect and of course the first rounder. I think if Despers is a must then he is substituted for the Harrington/Pouliot part. But either way I dont think many Pens fans will want to move Despres, looks like he is going to start the year on the top pairing with Letang.

Actually sorry should clarify, Vatanen is a Right Shot, which is what I thought you wanted. Booming shot from the point and a fast skater. Projected as a possible number 2 d-man if he can translate his game to NA. I believe he has also won awards like the Norris as well as breaking rookie scoring records in the SM-liiga.

Holland is probably our top center prospect. A big 2 way player who is scoring at or near a point per game in the AHL and currently competing for a spot on our roster in Anaheim.

I agree that Patches is no where near a franchise player. He is a cornerstone and building block of our franchise though.

Oilers should have traded Gagner right after his 8 point night, too late now.

My god, the OPs proposal was bad, but I actually think its gotten worse in here. A 2nd for Kulikov takes the cake..... I mean what is this crap.

Even though I am an Oiler fan, I wouldn't do any of those trades from the perspective of the other team unless I knew for sure he wasn't re-signing.

Montreal should offer Benn a 7 yr 7 million dollar contract. If they don't match we can tell Subban we don't have the money to pay him. Wait for someone to sign him or trade him for a coupla first rounders. We would have the option of trading Plekanac, Eller or Desharnais to help shore up the defence. Dallas upon hearing may be forced into a trade centering around Subban.

To Buffalo:

Conditional 2 first round picks and 1 conditional second rounder (Taken off if ROR DOES sign)

The Chicago deal is not as bad as you would want it to seem. It is a little short, but is quite significant, in all honesty. It is 10000000% better than that bloody Oiler offer...

The others are painful, though.

I think Dmitry Kulikov is the most underrated player on HF. Glad he re-signed so we don't have to witness any more 'proposals' for him...

Honestly, not terrible if Benn's unwilling to re-sign with Dallas, depending how you feel about JVR.
