Don't they have to get the roster down to 23 by tomorrow? I don't see anything special in the works here.
That's probably all it is.
With everything a bit wonky because of the lockout, does anyone know for sure if IR players can be retroactively placed back to last Saturday when camp officially opened? I would assume this was the case. Wondering because if Anze isn't ready to go for a couple games, they could fill that roster spot.
Rosters have to be finalized by noon tomorrow. The Kings' 23 man roster is set for opening night:
FORWARDS (14)
Dustin Brown, Mike Richards, Justin Williams, Jeff Carter, Dustin Penner, Simon Gagne, Jarret Stoll, Trevor Lewis, Dwight King, Jordan Nolan, Colin Fraser, Kyle Clifford, Brad Richardson, Anthony Stewart
DEFENSEMEN (7)
Drew Doughty, Rob Scuderi, Slava Voynov, Alec Martinez, Matt Greene, Davis Drewiske, Jake Muzzin
GOALTENDERS (2)
Jonathan Quick, Jonathan Bernier
INJURED (2)
Anze Kopitar, Willie Mitchell
If Kopitar returns, the Kings will probably assign one of Nolan or Stewart to Manchester or trade Richardson to make room.
When Mitchell returns, Muzzin will be back in Manchester, or they could possibly move/waive Drewiske.

I believe Muzzin has to clear waivers as well.
Frankly I'd waive Richardson or Drewiske before I waived Muzzin. Richardson was crap most of the year last year and both are UFA's after the season. Keep Muzzin as the #7 when Willie gets back.

That to me means he was ready to play in the NHL, just not top 6 ready, at least not above who we have in the top 6 currently.
Nice to see this kid develop. If he has a big year in Manchester I assume he'll be replacing Gagne or Penner in the line up next year.
As for Bodnarchuk, no big loss. This was expected. Hopefully he clears because Manchester needs the bodies.
I agree with all of this 100%. I'd waive Drewiske or trade Richardson before waiving Muzzin, even though I've been disappointed in Muzzin's progress as of late.
Bodnarchuk isn't a big loss. He was signed as a free agent this summer, and other teams had the option of acquiring him for free anyway.
And as for Toffoli, I agree that the Kings see him as NHL ready; they just want to give him more playing time.
Mancheter's coach compared Muzzin to a young Willie Mitchell. That seeled Hickey's fate right there. Kings will need to replace Mitchell in 2 years, Scuderi in 1 and Greene in 2. Martinez, Voynov, and Doughty are either locked up or only eligible for RFA.
It doesn't take a genius to figure this out...All the Kings stay at home, bigger guys are about to be UFA's while the puck movers are under RFA status or locked up (Doughty).

They changed it to 2pm PST, as they realized some teams on west coast may still be on ice at that time, so they pushed it two hours.
Guys like Bodnarchuk are available every summer as free agents. Muzzin has long term value that some teams might covet.
But once Mitchell gets back I wouldn't be surprised to see Muzzin waived or traded anyway. There are only so many roster spots and keeping him around as a 7th d-man not playing isn't gonna help him shake the rust off.
Besides, I'd personally feel more confident putting Drewiske out there in a game situation if needed than Muzzin if he's been as bad as you say in Manchester.
