Modano can be special assistant in charge of not signing Sean Avery.

I have absolutely no idea what Modano would do with the team, other than maybe some sort of marketing gig selling tickets. He's probably not healthy in the locker room and definitely not the kind of guy you want as a GM.

He's one of the last guys I want anywhere near our locker room with all these young guys coming up soon.

Here are the new roles:

Quote:
Josh Rimer ‏@JoshRimerHockey

Look for Dallas Stars Thursday to Name Mike Modano Executive Advisor & Alternate Governor. Recchi's role will be an Advisor to Nieuwendyk.

Uh oh Piqued! Recchi's becoming the right hand man to the GM. Gotta watch out for a coup

So basically they're both getting hired, along with Gainey, to tell Nieuwy what to do.

I think Modano is likely working more with Lites. I now they have a very good relationship. Don't the Govenor's deal mainly with the business side?

As far as I'm concerned, you can never have enough advisor's. As long as GMJN still has the last say and is full control of the team, I love the idea of having hockey guys such as Gainey, or Recchi giving advice, input, and different perspectives for Joe to use.

Alternate governor is the figurehead title that Hull got shuffled off to after his "re-assignment". They go to the BoG meetings.

Packed house for the presser:

Quote:
Dallas Stars ‏@DallasStars

Ps...presser is scheduled to begin at 11am featuring Tom Gaglardi, Mark Recchi, Bob Gainey, GM Joe, Jim Lites, @9modano and @mturco35
The Ticket is still the official radio station of the Dallas Stars ... They've go to be carrying this I assume.

He's probably too lazy (or too good looking) to learn GM skills.

Don't want Modano's whiney ass anywhere near the GM chair. Bad move if you ask me.

He's not. The guy isn't even in the hockey operations department. Modano has made it clear he's happy with his lifestyle, and he's not looking for a full time gig.

I could've sworn I just read that he'll be in an advisory role?

That's Recchi.

Modano is on the business side. Sounds like he'll basically be the face of the franchise at BOG meetings.

Think of Modano as the guy who maybe "works" 2 hours a month. "Work" means giving his opinon about marketing efforts and stuff like that between the 14th and 15th tee's. I don't consider going to games as working.

modano supposedly will be involved in getting some of the local business relationships back.

"hey mr. businessman, buy a luxury suite and you get to come play golf with me. if you buy some ads, i'll sign a bunch of stuff and take pictures with your family too!"
