His assist last night moves him into second in league scoring , trailing only Josh Currie. He's leaving for the WJC with 23 goals , 27 assists for 50 points in only 31 games. He'd be on pace to finish the season with 50 goals , 59 assists = 109 points!
Looking back at our prospect rankings, we put Jaskin at #15. With the season that Jaskin is having and that realization that his skating really isn't that bad, where would you guys rank him now? I think he's moved his way to to #6 or #7 right with Schmaltz.
Should be pretty interesting when we do the rankings again.
Have you seen Edmundson play? What is your assessment of him? I know he's not in the Q. How about Tesink? Thanks
Yes I had the chance a couple of times last season. He's obviously a huge physical defenceman. He's very strong and a hard worker on and off the ice. He plays a ton of minutes in Moose Jaw in all situations which shows Mike Stothers has plenty of confidence in him. He takes the body and plays a simple game. Clears the front of the net well and has a high hockey IQ. One thing , that comes with almost all big dmen, was he skating and speed. Joel has improved his foot speed considerably since his first season in the WHL. He posseses a good slap shot but needs to improve accuracy. He's never going to be known as an offensive defenceman as he lacks certain offensize instincts but is very solid defensively. He owns his zone while on the ice. He also sacrifices his body at all costs to block shots and has earned alot of respect from his teammates because of that. He'll always be a leader wherever he goes. His upside in my eyes would be a 2nd pairing dman , but I believe he'll settle as a responsible #5 or #6 guy who can be used on the PK. As for Tesink , I wrote about him in the posts above.

Jaskin should definitly be in the top-5 , if not , top-3 in terms of NHL potential.
I greatly appreciate your take. "Top Notch" It looks like Edmundson has stepped up his game. I love the D Men that can play a solid role and offer a "policeman" role. I think he would give Pie or Shattenkirk more room to operate.
As someone has stated (the obvious) this second round for the Blues may turn out to be a bonanza. The developement of Raskin and Edmundson makes the Blues pipeline alll the deeper and the Blues future all the brighter. ( If we ever see them play )

In the WJC highlights Jaskin was doing just what you want a power forward to do. He was playing a physical game all over the ice. The more I see of Jaskin the more I like him.

He's doing great , a real game changing player. An NHL scout said he was a top 5 player in this tournament. That says alot this season considering the NHL players that are participating.
The Jaskin/Danault/Barbashev was amazing last night as the Moncton Wildcats defeated the Gatineau Olympiques 5-3. Jaskin was the game's first star after scoring 2 goals and assisting on 2 others. Barbashev added 1 goal and 2 assists. Danault 1 assist in his Wildcats' debut.
WOW! Jaskin with 2 goals and 3 assists tonight. He is on fire.
That line is really finding some chemistry. Jaskin 2 goals , 3 assists. Barbashev 2 goals , 2 assists. Danault 1 goal, 3 assists. They downright dominated this 7-1 win over Saint John. Their line was the stars of the game. Jaskin 1st star, Barb 2nd star and Danault 3rd star!!!
Jaskin now has 27 goals and 32 assists in 33 games. He may jump to the top of the blues prospects by seasons end.
If Tarasenko, Cole and Schwartz graduate, he doesnt have a ton of people to jump. Id put him higher than Rattie, Schmaltz and Allen, he should have an easier transition to the pro game than Rattie and Schmaltz is still very far off. Allen hasnt taken the next step in the AHL.
Man this kid really excites me, with his size and skill. Cant wait to get him in training camp next year and see how he stacks up with the big boys. Is there any chance he could sign a deal to play with Peoria this year after Moncton's season is over?
