I'm coming to town next weekend (Jan 26-28) and was hoping to get out to see the Kings-Coyotes game on Saturday night. I so far am staying downtown and was not planning to get a rental car. how much would a taxi from the downtown near the US Airlines arena be to the Glendale arena? Would it be better to rent a car?
Also any deals for tickets for the game would be appreciated to.

With regards to the cab that is brought up. The customer has the power to haggle the price for the cab ride before he/she agrees to get in the cab for a ride and that would help some. The other option I would mention is ask the front desk of the hotel if they have a shuttle that goes from the hotel to Westgate City Center(where the Arena is). Some hotels offer some sort of shuttle service up to a certain distance. Other than that, see if you can hitchhike a ride with someone to the game.
I doubt if you can find a real steal on tickets seeing this game is going to be a big draw.

Yeah but he specifically stated for the Kings game which if we were to encourage the purchase from Stubhub would be around $40 bucks plus fees in the lower level. However, we encourage box office purchases

What's the scalper scene at the stadium? or is it best to buy from coyote website or stubhub? Preference is cheap $.
Coyotes Website as that is only site where you are less likely to get ripped off. We had a few during the Super Bowl a few years ago that got ripped off over $1000 from the scalpers. Stubhub is 50-50.
For all visitors to this great state, I can't stress enough how much our law enforcement loves to generate revenue via DUI arrests. "Come on vacation, leave on probation" is our slogan for a reason. If you drink and drive, it will cost you five thousand dollars and a week in jail. You'll be shocked what happens if you try to get away with that here.

Westgate is a great place to hang out during the day and drink/eat.
Agreed. I'm not *****ing about how the hand out too many or about how the punishment is too severe. I'd like to pick nits and say .1 makes more sense than .08 but not every time. I'd rather use caution. I'm not complaining, but rather try to drive home the fact that this state is incredibly strict about drinking and driving and people should be aware of that.
Just wanted to chime in that I'm recently back home from spring training & catching a couple games (St. Louis, Dallas). I was fairly impressed with the experience, as a whole. Thought the arena was great and atmosphere, at least Sat vs Dallas, was decent.
If what I witnessed was a good assessment of typical Coyotes games, by no means should the team be relocated. Not sure what I can do other than hope that the team stays put, but I'm on board.
Leafs fan here, I was wondering and probably will get best from y'all, but do people like hockey in Phoenix? How many people go the games, any sellouts? I've been to Williams and Kingman AZ and from talking to people and visiting stores didn't see much interest in Coyotes and Coyotes merchandise but more Arizona Cardinals. Is hockey big in Phoenix how does it compare to Cardinals, Suns, Diamondbacks?

Hockey in Phoenix has historically had a strong following in Arizona, despite the Coyotes low attendance in the last 3 or so years. The various incarnations of the Phoenix Roadrunners were very popular in the local area. In fact, Wayne Gretzky and several other Kings players played a preseason game for the Roadrunners in the early 90's (it was the only minor league game he ever played) at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Colliseum in downtown Phoenix. After playing a game in Phoenix, Gretzky and then Kings owner Bruce McNall believe it or not suggested Phoenix as a potential expansion/relocation destination, because of the Roadrunners strong following.
When the Coyotes first arrived in Arizona, they iced some very competitive teams and were actually the most popular team in Phoenix in the late 90's. A crappy lease agreement with the Suns, and the fact that the Suns arena was unsuitable for hockey caused them to move to Glendale. Glendale is insanely far away from a large portion of the fanbase on the east side. For references sake it takes me 105 minutes to reach Jobing.com arena from my house in Gilbert, since I along with many other fans have to deal with rush hour traffic in the largest metropolitan area in North America by land area (not population)
Glendales far away location has hurt the coyotes following in addition to the ownership fiasco, because there is nobody to market the team on television and radio. Additionally many fans don't want to spend money and drive 90+ minutes to see a team that might not exist next year. The good news though, is that the Coyotes had decent attendance numbers in Glendale when they had ownership stability, despite the fact that they were perennial bottom feeders at the time. So in conclusion if the Coyotes had solid ownership, they could probably make it work in Glendale since they were the most popular team in Arizona at one point.
Hey, I will be in Phoenix for a conference for a few days. My plan is to drive to Sedona after I land Saturday morning, since its my only day off. Google Maps is saying the drive should be about two and a half hours. Is that right or should I expect traffic? Also, any recommendations for stops on the way(preferably without getting of track to far)? Thanks
During the week, expect a lot of traffic going that way from 3-6 m-f. Should be about 2 hours but don't expect to visit Flagstaff from there using the normal way since its closed. But Sedona is worth the trip.
I will be coming down to the east valley area(Mesa) in a few weeks with my girlfriend. We will be there for two weeks and I was just wondering what are some things to do? We have been there two times before and taken in some things already(Grand Canyon, Scottsdale, Dbacks game, jeepin etc..) so I'm here just looking for suggestions to do with our time there. We don't have anything planned, so our days are open. We talked about going up to Sedona for a few days, but other than that, nothing!

I'll be staying in Downtown Scottsdale, and looking for a bar with a good atmosphere and possibly one that would have play-by-play on the speakers.
Can't guarantee you'll get the audio, but I highly recommend Twin Peaks on Frank Lloyd Wright Blvd. Halfway through the first period when you come to your senses and realize you're watching a Leafs / Bruins game, you'll be surrounded by distractions to take your mind off all the terrible hockey.
