That certainly looks pretty reasonable, although at this point we could take Jay McClement out, because it looks like he's as good as gone.

Might be just me, but I don't think O'Reilly or Johnson get quite that much. Even if they do though, and you take out McClement and add Burish or someone, it is comforting to know we will still have about 10M in cap space if we sign Suter. Easy to keep our core together, and if we get into cap trouble, Stas will probably be gone or take a pay cut.

Meh I'm not too worried about this short season. Either everything goes well and we make the playoffs, or we suck and get a great prospect. Win-Win.

Regardless of talent, I think it's safe to say that if this squad doesn't make the postseason, Sacco's a goner.

If he somehow does, even with O'Reilly, does he get a long term extension?

Depends on how many games they win in the 1st round, and if there's an obvious replacement available like Ruff.

If they get swept, it's as bad if not worse than missing the playoffs appearance wise. If they win one, I think he's probably gone. If they win two and make the others somewhat competitive it's even money. If they win three, and it's not an epic up three games and lost situation, I think the chances are a little better they keep him.

Even if Ruff were suddenly available at the end of this season, I highly doubt the Avs would hire him. It's just not the way they do it, for better or worse.

Unless Quinn proves to be an absolute disaster as an assistant, the job will be his to lose...if Sacco loses it first, of course.

But I agree...making it to the playoffs should not be the end goal.

My Dream Off-season
- Fire Sacco - CHECK
- Win the Lottery - CHECK
- Draft Jones
- Trade Stastny+ for Vanek
- Trade Hunwick and Zanon for anything
- Sign Boyd Gordon via UFA
- Re-Sign Kobasew and Bordeleau (pending UFAs)
- Hire Lindy Ruff as head coach

Thomas Vanek ($7.143m) / Matt Duchene ($3.500m) / P-A Parenteau ($4.000m)
Gabriel Landeskog ($0.925m) / Ryan O'Reilly ($5.000m) / Steve Downie ($2.650m)
Jamie McGinn ($1.750m) / John Mitchell ($1.100m) / David Jones ($4.000m)
Cody McLeod ($1.150m) / Boyd Gordon ($1.500m) / Chuck Kobasew ($1.250m)
Mark Olver ($0.600m) / Patrick Bordeleau ($0.600m)

Seth Jones ($0.925m) / Erik Johnson ($3.750m)
Jan Hejda ($3.250m) / Tyson Barrie ($0.840m)
Ryan Wilson ($2.250m) / Stefan Elliott ($0.900m)
Shane O'Brien ($2.000m)

Semyon Varlamov ($2.833m)
Jean-Sebastien Giguere ($1.500m)

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $53,416,190
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $10,883,810*
*Low as $5,273,810 CAP SPACE (5.61 mill possible in bonuses to Jones, Landeskog and Barrie combined)

Good young team now, and plenty of money to accomodate growth.

Always assume full cap with bonuses or else you get a penalty the following year. Also, any team with Mitchell as its third line center will just be asking to fail miserably.

Agreed. We need a top end defensive center which Mitchell is not. Like everything else and totally hope we can find a way to get Vanek.

I don't get why Mitchell gets so much flak from fans. As a first line winger, sure, but as a 3C, he's decent. He would get 17G-17A in an 82 game sked at this past season's pace.

Boyd Gordon is that face-off/PK/defensive center specialist the Avs need, whom I have slotted in as 4C.

Why is this in the cap thread lol, there is a trade and FA talk thread

PS Streit will probably be vastly overpayed.

I'd say we could probably unsticky the 11-12 cap thread too.

I'd make a new one but I don't have the time to keep it updated really, and cap geek does a great job with each team anyway these days.

Streit says he wants North of 5.5 million per season.

And he can't play on the left side. Don't want him anywhere near this team for that kind of money.

Avs roster pretty much finalized. I'm assuming Malone is the 14th forward and Elliott plays in LEM, as opposed to 13 F and 8 D.

Roster (23)

FORWARDS
Ryan O'Reilly ($5.000m) / Matt Duchene ($3.500m) / P-A Parenteau ($4.000m)
Gabriel Landeskog C ($3.575m) / Paul Stastny A ($6.600m) / Alex Tanguay ($3.500m)
Jamie McGinn ($1.750m) / Nathan MacKinnon ($3.775m) / Steve Downie ($2.650m)
Cody McLeod ($1.150m) / John Mitchell ($1.100m) / Patrick Bordeleau ($1.000m)
Mark Olver ($0.600m) / Brad Malone ($0.735m)

DEFENSEMEN
Ryan Wilson ($2.250m) / Erik Johnson A ($3.750m)
Jan Hejda ($3.250m) / Tyson Barrie ($0.900m)
Andre Benoit ($0.900m) / Cory Sarich ($2.000m)
Matt Hunwick ($1.600m)

GOALTENDERS
Semyon Varlamov ($2.833m)
Jean-Sebastien Giguere ($1.500m)

BUYOUTS: Greg Zanon ($0.750m)

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000;
CAP PAYROLL with bonuses included: $57,918,333
CAP PAYROLL without bonuses included: $52,358,333

Reserve List (currently 23, max. 27 (Roster+Reserve=50 max.))

F (12) = Hishon, Heard, Carey, Wyman, Meurs, Smith, Van der Gulik, Desbiens, Cheek, Agozzino, Sgarbossa, Lerg
D (7) = Elliott, Siemens, Holden, Guenin, Beaupre, Lauridsen, Stollery,
G (4) = Aittokallio, Patterson, Millan, Pickard

By the time the seasons starts, I predict the only teams with more Cap Space (without bonuses included) than the Avs will be CGY, FLA, NYI and possibly OTT.
