i have watched him since day one, including the last few seasons on NHL/AHL duty.
yep, for a million bucks i think alot of teams would be interested
I don't, I have little doubt some teams would be interested in him as a 7th D who will ride the bench and fill in for an injured player, I just don't see a lot of teams being interested in him if they actually watched his play for anything more than that.
Guys like Kaberle and Komisarek who are routinely bashed on these boards are better than Redden.
My brother in law takes me to see the Whale every time I go to visit family in Connecticut when hockey season is ongoing. Last year when we went I kept an eye on him and he was bad, he was bad in the AHL, every time I watch him no matter what team I watch him on since 2007 always leaves me wondering what the heck happened to this guy?
The Detroit Red Wings aren't going to make a play for unrestricted free agent defenseman Wade Redden.
There had been internal discussions about whether Redden, 35, would help bolster the blue line in the wake of losing Nicklas Lidstrom to retirement and Brad Stuart via trade, but ultimately, management decided to stick with what's already on the roster.
How much of a shell of himself is Redden? Is he even a capable NHLer anymore?
Remains to be seen. He's pretty damn slow though.
I'd say(according to his play in the ahl and translating..which is hard to do) he'd be a decent 7th on a good team, or a bottom pairing on a bad team.
Rumours are he hasn't trained much in years, and never really trained hard to begin with...he's getting up in age(turning 36 soon i think), and had a double hernia(which also helped in the decline of cheechoos career)...i would likely say someone signs him, and he may do ok for a short burst to prove himself again...but will ultimately suck and retire soon.
I am happy for the guy. I was completely against signing him and the dopey contract Sather gave to him, but he was not that bad and was made a scapegoat for Sather's failures. I am glad that he will be able to resume his career now. Everyone in hartford has said that he was a classy guy.
As for Gomez......thanks again Mr. Gainey.
This sums it up for me. When Sather signed him I said he would be our version of Alexi Yashin. It pretty much turned out that way. Thankfully Redden was a class act all the way & I wish him well. Hope he catches on with another team.
