Redden is a number 6 to 7 depth guy now.

Chara made him.But the Rangers made him rich.By and large these free agents signings for huge dough have been a bust.

Anybody have any idea as to where the leafs stand cap-wise, since the Connolly and Lombardi moves?
Could these moves to free up cap be in preparation for a big trade?

Definitely helps .. Resigning Kessel and Lupes over the next couple years for their likely raises

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie

Multiple teams considering options on both. LA, STL, TOR, FLA among those kicking tires on Redden, ANA and CAR among those considering Gomez

Yes, he hasn't been bought out yet, but I dont believe NYR brass will be taking any issue with premature discussions with other teams until the buyout is official.
Anything on the Leafs?

Where would Redden fit in?

Decent reclamation project could be had for cheap

personally, I'd pass on Redden, better options within the Leaf organization IMO.

Let Franson or Kostka play, don't need Redden.

Unless Connolly is picked up on waivers or traded, it doesnt effect the cap at all. Even if hes playing on the Marlies.

Sens are keeping all 3 goalies up right now. If Lehner can steal the starting job, maybe Anderson will become available. Not sure if they'd trade a starting goalie to a division rival though.

Leafs Roster

7 Defence

Phaneuf-Gunnarsson
Liles-Franson
Holzer-Komisark
(Fraser)

12 F

lupul-bozak-kessel
jvr-grabovski-macarthur
frattin-kadri-kulemin
brown-McClement-Komarov

I Know when Gardiner comes back holzer or komi will get pushed down, but I really hope the leafs will decide to give Kostka a shot sometime this season.

I think early on Redden helped Chara tremendously. then the Student passed the teacher and Redden got sloppy having a Norris candidate as a partner.

Hypothetical:

What is the leaf best lineup you can build with Perry and Getzlaf signed for 7.5 each and a cap of 64.2?

I figure average salaries will come down so it will be about as good as any team with two players north of 7 mill but it could take 2-3 years of turmoil before we see it normalize.

Also, the cap is likely to increase year after year

Cap wise, we are in great shape to build into the new system which is the opposite of how things were after the last lockout

Redden would be a good third pairing addition for us. We still need some veteran leaders to help Dion.

Well I personally think that Getzlaf will re-sign in Anaheim, but Perry is possiable. BUT if both were to sign as free agents, the team would be in a good spot.

Hope we claimed Irving. Let Scrivens go back to the Marlies, and see what Irving can do. If he sucks, we can waive him and bring back Scrivens.
