Gomez is terrible. I don't care if it's for one year and the league minimum, it's a complete waste of a roster spot.

The guy had his time as a good and productive player, but he's done.

JJ from Hockeybuzz wrote that rumor.

David Pagnotta‏@TheFourthPeriod

Hearing around 11 teams are interested in Gomez, including NAS, ANA, CBJ, CAR and yes NJ

Gomez is worth a gamble. If he doesn't work out, you waive him and another team would take a flyer on him. There's absolutely no harm in signing him for under 1.5M.

While this is technically correct I'd rather try the players already in our system.

Bowman would probably sign him for the third line and kick Shaw out to wing. Still, this is terrible, but there is no link to back it up. If Bowman signs him, I go from being a patient fan to WTF, which isn't even an adjective. I want a move for a quality center, but for the love of god, don't make a move for the sake of making one.

Try Gomez, give him 8-10 games, if it's not working out, waive him and either give the reigns over to Pirri/Kruger or go out and get someone via trade.

People really are over-stating how bad he was in Montreal. If he were making what he was worth, which was 4M, you could write last year off as simply a really bad year.. but because he was making 7M+ and because the Canadians gave up McDonaugh, his badness gets even more magnified. He had 58 points in 2009-10, 38 points in 2010-11 and obviously had a really bad season last year.

He's only 33. He's not in the twilight of his career. He can bounce back - I'm not saying he will, but he can and again, he'll be heavily motivated.

I'd rather have Connolly, to be honest.

He's FAR WORSE than Connolly has been the past couple years, I'd much rather take on 48 games of that contract than give Gomez 5 games.

there's no way i'd want either of them - but if forced to choose i suppose i'd take gomez

the thought of having to watch another game with connolly is too much to bear

I....actually wouldn't hate this. Conolly is too injury prone, Gomez is just unmotivated.

I kinda agree with Hoss, if he could bounce back it slots our guys better without having to give up any assets via a trade. If not, just cut him and move everyone back up a center spot.

yea lets sign him and waste another year where we could have gotten a look at some guys in the pipeline. God knows Q would play him over a younger guy despite how horrible he plays.

I'd rather have Jason Arnott, who isn't signed yet.

I have an idea, instead of signing Gomez how about giving Pirri a chance?

After Morrison, Johnson, and Dowell getting ice time there, I kind of like the bad Gomez idea instead.

I'm not fond of the idea, but I can think of worse. I'm assuming it would just be this year.

NO!

Its a quick fix for short season. I hate quick fixes, especially when they **** up our system. Gomez is not good for any line in Hawks, not good enough in 2. not defensive enough in 3 and not special enough for 4th.

Our prospects needs their shots, this season is great opportunity to bring the yongsters in, next season starts in 9 months.

If we try to get 2nd line center, lets get one that is right calibre for the job.

EDIT: Also dont ever again post thread named like this ****.

we only need a quick fix for this season. Next will be different with other options and with a full offseason to prepare the team. Have a full and real camp and preseason.

Exactly, it's a short season. Perfect situation to see if he can bounce back on a short, relatively cheap deal. We need centers, so it's not a horrible idea to try.
