To be generous, this looks like two second lines, a third and a fourth.

Umberger-Brassard-Atkinson
Dubinsky-Anisimov-Dorsett
Foligno-Johansen-Prospal
Letestu-Mackenzie-Boll

Johnson-Wisniewski
Tyutin-Nikitin
Aucoin-Moore

Bobrovsky
Mason

Gillies, Savard
Looks about right to me, IMO Id flip Letestu and Calvert. I like Lets but if he is not gonna be Centering the fourth line, id rather play Calvert.

For those who think Boll doesn't start against Nashville please check yourself at the door. I'll gladly eat crow but there's no way he's not in the lineup. Calvert and Gillies sit first game.

Umberger-Brassard-Atkinson
Dubinsky-Anisimov-Dorsett
Foligno-Johansen-Prospal
Letestu-MacKenzie-Boll

Johnson-Wisniewski
Tyutin-Nikitin
Aucoin-Moore

Bobrovsky

Calvert plays if Cam doesn't and Foligno slots up with Brass and Umby. Gillies sees little time this year and Savard bounces up and down and only plays for the occassional break or injury. Kind of surprised they didn't bring Holden to camp to keep as a #7. Seems he's solid but doesn't have the anticipated future that Savard does and why not sit a guy like that and let Savard play big minutes in the AHL. Oh well. Let's go Jackets

I think you are right, although I don't know if Nashville is as physical. annoying a team anymore without 2 2 and hartnell.

Hartnell hasn't been a Pred for over half a decade. I think you may be thinking of Suter.

Hoping the loss of Suter has a twofold effect

of 1) missing Suter 2) making Weber less effective. We will see on Saturday

It's still the Preds, still a Barry Trotz team, and a lot of their younger players are bangers. It's the same team, just younger and a lot less experienced.

I don't have a problem with Dorsett being played where he is for three reasons.

1. He isn't afraid to go into the corners and dig out the puck.
2. He isn't afraid to park in front of the net and take some abuse.
3. His defense is better than others.

You can't look at any player in a vacuum. What role will each individual play on each line? Umberger can be the net presence, Brass can distribute (and hopefully shoot some), and Atkinson is the sneaky little sniper. If they utilize the potential cannons on the blueline as well, they'll do OK.

Dorsett took some huge steps forward last season. He'll be fine.

On #3: that's arguably true of everybody on that line. I dunno if there's even a generally accepted term for that phenomenon - "two-way scoring line" or something?

It's definitely not part of the classic first-through-fourth lines model at all, but I can't help but like the way it looks.

Its obvious why the DD-AA-BD line is together...but theyre gonna have some tough matchups. Not enough Foligno love in here at all. A line w him Prospal and Johansen should be awesome puck possession.

For the past, like, 3 seasons my father has been saying Dorsett is the canary in the coal mine for this team. As long as there is a spot for him, we aren't very good.

The fact that he's on the 2nd line is driving my father nuts.

I imagine your father and I would have some very interesting, and very vocal, disagreements as regards the game of hockey.

I don't see Nashville having a stronger defense than us anymore. Josi/Weber is scary but we actually have some depth for once. Our forward cores look pretty damn similar as well.

Think this as has been the trend will come down to goaltending, and well I'm not exactly sure we got them beat there

Also Trotz> Richards

But anyways I think Boll is out there for Nashville and maybe Detroit as well, can't get away from freaking Tootoo.

Your father seems like a bright guy regarding the 2nd line. On the 4th line I think DD could be a career guy like Kris Draper or Kirk Maltby or 2 2.

A constant irritant who can score some, fight (albeit he is too small to take on the heavyweights very often) and will become better defensively.

Why get so hung up on 1st,2nd,3rd line designations? As has been proposed many times, they really need to be viewed as 3 second lines. The real key is how they are used. If you are having a tough time viewing it like that then move the Johansen line up one. Now it's Brass, Johanson, Anisimov. Does that make you fell better? Dorsett's now on the third line.

As has been put forth by smarter than I, Dubinsky, Anisimov, Dorsett are probably going to match up against the opposition's top line. With Dorset on the hard forecheck who knows how many pucks he can pop loose for the other two to charge the net with? RJ, Joey and Cam will never be a great defensive line but will probably hold their own, and on the flip side if they draw the classic third checking line match up, that would leave Vinny, Johansen and Foligno with what should be an advantageous match up, might surprise everyone and could end up the top point line.

I know it runs contrary to HF mindset but we might want to actually see it play out, and then draw conclusions.

Sorry, lost my mind there for a second.

For me, that player is Boll. He just brings nothing to the table for me, whereas Dorse, in my opinion, has a seemingly underrated offensive ability. Just my two cents.

Also, looked at the starting defensive lineup for last year's opener, holy smokes was that awful.

According to Rob Mixer, blogger on the team site, Cam skated with RJ and Brass, today, and looked healthy and happy.

Now that we are a week into the season, let's revise our suggested lines. Here's my revised forward lines:

Prospal - Anisimov - Dubinsky
Foligno - Brassard - Atkinson
Umberger - Johansen - JAM
Calvert - MacKenzie - Dorsett
Boll, Letestu

Send Gilles to Springfield, risk losing him on waivers. He's of no value in the press box and I don't see where he fits on the ice.

I wouldn't even put Dubinsky anywhere near the top line. He's been all but invisible the first 4 games except for moments against Colorado.

Foligno - Johansen - Atkinson
Prospal - Anisimov - Calvert
Umberger - Brass - Dubi
Boll - MacKenzie - Dorsett

I can totally see your point with Dubinsky. I only put him there because what we're lacking most right now is chemistry. Calvert is a LW.
