Is it just me or does Galchenyuk seem slow. Everytime I see him he seems to be a sluggish skater. Same at the WJ. I love the kid and have heard he's fast but he sure doen't seem to be. He sort of just floats around and only seems to react when he gets the puck.

I really don't see him being here after the 5th game...
Lets wait and see, Eller is better then Kuraly, but in my opinion he doesn't have great vision(a la Kuraly) ... Its tough for Gally to look well when you don't get the puck!!!

I listen to the game entirely and Gally didn't received pass from is teammates !!!

When Plekanec play with Gally, if Gally doesn't follow the pace, then i will agree with you!

I want to see Gal with Plek before I judge because while Gal wasn't great, neither was Ells

Galchenyuk needs to be stronger on his feet and puck.

It's a bit early to say that, but I'd agree at this point.

This is the first time I've seen him play since the WJC, and he still played like he did at the world juniors. Not aggressive and not moving his feet. He's too playing tentatively. I remember I made a post saying that I'd like to see him start using his body more effectively. Whether that be to protect the puck or lay a hit. He started using his body more after that, but then the WJC came and he just stopped.

Hopefully he starts to get some of that fire back, he's been pretty quiet.

Is he playing too tentatively, or maybe he is to shy to take control of the puck... I think that maybe when he will get confidence playing NHL players(not confidence about is play), he will start to shine

Like I said prior to training camp, at most he should get 5 games and finish off the year in Sarnia. He'll benefit from that type of scenario.

Are you guys SERIOUSLY judging an 18 year in his first scrimmage game at the world famous Bell Centre ?

After 2 periods ? Scrimmage hockey ?

Really ?

Yeah that's what I was thinking. First game (if you can call it that) with a brand new team. There was a lot of worse players out there, it's just that everyone focuses in on him.

I'll judge him when he plays a real game Saturday. For good or bad, you can't judge tonight's performance.. for anyone.

From @ArponBasu
Basically, IMO, if Galchenyuk had no shot at spending the season here he would have maybe gotten a look at centre. But they need a wing now.

Well, it's not like I only watched this game and said, "He shouldn't be in the NHL." My opinion of his NHL-readiness is based off what I've seen the entire season, not just tonight, or the WJC for that matter.

I'm not saying that he won't make the team, I certainly think he's skilled enough. He's also being put in a position to succeed, so he has a good shot. He's not going to be any less of a player if he doesn't stay up the big team.

It will be interesting to see where he goes from here. I want to see him work a few aspects, but those can easily be worked on in the NHL as well. He can get away with just using his skill in juniors, I'm sure he'll learn that he has to start using his body more (against men) on top of that skill.

The NHL pace is faster than junior. He just needs to play more games. At this point I would expect them not to keep him unless he is lights out during a five game stint.

Even Erik Cole looked sluggish tonight, and we all know what type of explosive skater he can be (He showed it once on the right flank)

I thought he had a decent game. His vision is amazing, his passes are smooth and I think we should give him a shot. He can learn a lot in MTL, not so sure he's got that much experience to gain in the OHL vs the NHL.

The kid can keep up and he's only going to get better. The one thing that bothers me is that he tends to cheat waiting on the enemy blue line. Maybe it's just me, but i thought he looked like he was playing center when he was with Eller tonight, he was all over the place.

He has NHL size and skill and is averaging nearly two points per game, what else do you need?

Sending him back to the OHL would be foolish, unless he looked outmatched.
Give him a shot already.

The kid can definitely keep up so far, let's see how he does in his first actual games.

And I hear the Gally interview after the game ... if I remember correctly Gally found is game soso, he said that he was nervous and not focus 100%, he was looking some time at the stands! He said that he hope to improve is game for saturday, etc...!

Saturday against the Leafs is going to be the true test IMO.

The fans are hungry and it's against an ancient rival. This scrimmage was pretty smooth when it comes to the crowd, people are gonna go bonkers saturday.

Good lord, if you can find me an example or two of a player who was hurt by spending too much time in junior, go right ahead.

The list of teenagers rushed into the NHL who never turned into what they were touted to become is quite long though.

In my estimation, to stay beyond 5 games and burn the first year of his ELC for a half season of hockey, he must play at a higher level than just ''blending in''.

I don't think it's about that. If he's capable of playing at the NHL level, then I think it's better for his development.
