Am I the only one who doesn't think Reyes talks fast?
Although I might have no credibility as people say I talk fast...

Dempster said no to WBC, as expected. Taillon said yes though, and it seems like Canada is going to have to rely on him.

that half-hour interview thing with Gibbons was pretty good. Hilarious hearing that his mom has such a thick New England accent.

Interesting. A big deal, similar to the Marlins collapsed before the Marlins deal went through.

Anyone have thoughts on what it could be? I assume a big pitcher(s) would be included in the deal.

He's always said he tries to mold his team similar to the Rangers system. Maybe it was them? Andrus/Kinsler and Holland. It would have to be someone who can either deal some pretty big players and still function or a team that is going into a rebuild/developing mode. In terms of the latter, Rollins and Lee for example.

I just got home from work and I'm exhausted so excuse me if I didn't try and look this up. Is there anywhere I can find the full interview online?

My bet would be Cubs or Mets.

dunno if you can view the whole thing on Sportsnet.ca, but at the very least it'll probably be on the Sportsnet channels a bunch of times over the next few weeks.

maybe the cubs where we get starlin, garza and a filler or 2. there have been rumors that epstein doesn't like starlin because of his play style.

Just look up "Blue Jays Up Close" on your TV. It was a program on Sportsnet. Should be on again I assume.

My best guess would be AA trying to get Peavy and Floyd before Peavy signed an extension. Maybe Alexei Ramirez is inolved as well? I don't think that other trade necessary had to have a SS.

Well he said the money was the same, so I would assume the amount of players would have been as well.

Maybe it was Cleveland: Masterson, Jiminez, Cabrera, etc.

Who cares? He's got a great personality and actually can talk to the media. The fact he can have a full conversation in english is more than most latin americans can claim

#Bluejays sign JA Happ to $3.7-million, one year deal, avoiding arbitration.

Jays avoid arbitration with Happ by signing him to 1yr/3.7 deal.

#Bluejays settle with Emilio Bonifacio at $2.6 million, avoiding arbitration.

Thole is the only one left now. MLBTR projected Happ to get 3.8, 2.5 for Bonifacio and 1.2M for Thole.

Surprised AA signed these guys, I thought they already exchanged arb numbers and it was policy not to negotiate once that happens. Oh well, glad they've got them done and don't need to worry about them

That was never the policy iirc.

Jays are notorious for never going to arb with guys. They had some ridiculous streak going until last year where they hadn't taken a guy to arb in forever.

Exchanging of #'s is a formality, they usually negotiate right up until the arb date that was set.

EDIT: I stand corrected. Thanks NN

Exchanging the numbers happens today. After today, AA won't negotiate salaries for next season but multi-year deals would be up for discussion.

Quote:
Teams have until 12pm CDT today to exchange filing numbers with their arbitration eligible players. Generally speaking the deadline creates lots of discussion and leads to early deals. Plus, for ‘file and trial’ teams this marks the final chance for negotiations in advance of a hearing.
