McLean has been interchanging Boro and Wier. The forwards have remined contant, while the Defence has been in constant change.
That makes sense, they probably had a plan in place since September and with Cowen and Lundin hurt, that is probably why they are trying different combos.

This seems pretty close if coach wants Hoffman. If not then Smith slides up (to C?) a line and O'Brien fits in with Daug as the 13. I assume that is the way the season starts as Murray indicated 13 forwards.
Borowiecki would be the 7th D, which brings us to 20. Murray did say he'd consider 22 or 23, so the question is about that 23rd guy - Lehner or Hoffman.
I think he stays at 22 to start the season, giving more time to assess which of the 3 Bingo D gets returned (baring injury) when Lundin comes back.

Well, for ES in the playoffs, he was paired with one of Gilroy or Carkner on the third pairing for 57 mins leaving 46 mins of his 103 total with one of Karlsson, Gonchar, Kuba or Cowen.
Cowen on the otherhand spent 77 mins with Gonchar on the second pair.
Phillips was the go to guy for filling in for missed shifts due to minor injuries and coincidental penalties. He was also double shifted for some instances where a more defensive presence was needed (late in the game while holding a lead). That said, Cowen was clearly on the second pairing, Phillips was clearly on the 3rd. That's why people call him the 5th defenceman.
Had the series been more wide open, it's safe to say Phillip's TOI would have dropped.
I thought that they were looking to split up the Bingo Dmen, and have one with Phillips and one with Gonchar, no?

From what PM has been saying this week, it doesn't sound like phillips will be starting with gonchar. It could end up that way if things don't work out with wier/boro there.
He's said, 'we know that works and can always go back to it'
I thought it was going to be Wiercioch - Gonchar / Phillips - Benoit, too, but today was hearing from a variety of minor sources that Wiercioch - Benoit would be the pairing.

edit: nvm watched a mcstache video from today and he said one more practice before gameday, so i assume they're practicing tomorrow morning. I'm hoping PP and PK stuff, as that's going to be key in the first week.
Michalek - Spezza - Silfverberg (could be a mid to top tier first line depending on how Silfverberg adjusts) Latendresse - Turris - Alfredsson (the line with the most question marks...however it has huge potential...if it works out we could see a 1A and 1B line situation) Regin - O'Brien - Condra (there's some skill here, a lot of heart and endurance...can probably be counted on for some extra scoring here and there and if Regin stays healthy who knows what they can do) Greening - Smith - Neil (this line will be a nightmare for opposing teams...they can score, too, but they will be the Ottawa version of the bash brothers +1)
Methot - Karlsson (this will be one of the best d-pairings in the league when all is said and done) Borowiecki - Gonchar (has potential...Boro is solid and I don't think he'll be blinded by the bright lights while Gonchar is in a contract year and has been playing well in the KHL) Phillips - Wierchioch (another line that should see a bit of time...PW has been progressing really well and didn't look out of place in his last call-up while Phillips has always been a rock for this team)
Anderson - Lehner - Bishop (more goaltending depth than we have ever had as an organization and any number of them could be considered #1s on many teams in the league to be honest...Lehner and Bishop should push Anderson for the starting position and as a result hopefully elevate his play...otherwise we have good options)
Our team stacks up well against most in the league and this is going to be a good season.

i think smith's shot is better than greening's, so putting him with players that can get him the puck should be nice to see. three lines that can score with a fourth line that can chip in as well. i honestly think that smith has the ability to pot 20 on a scoring third line where he's the finisher. i think the rest of the line-up speaks for itself. i know it's already been decided the silf will play on the first line, but a first line of

looks tempting to me. if silf struggles, how long do you think it would take for us to try that line?

(Scoring is G,P, +/-, PIM, SOG, PPP, and SHP)

Gonchar has always been on the first PP with Karlsson. I expect nothing to change especially with Gonchar's crazy numbers he put up in Russia during the lock-out. Long term? Definitely Faulk.

He was probably getting the 2nd most PP minutes of any Sens blueline even before the injuries. Neither Cowen nor Lundin are offensive dynamos.
The only question I'd have is whether Gonchar will be on the 1st PP unit with Karlsson, or whether Maclean opts to put a forward on the blueline (for instance: Alfie has lots of experience manning the blueline with the man advantage). Odds are Gonchar plays with Karl on the 1st unit.
Anyways, long story short: Gonch will have the 2nd most PP minutes of any Sens d-man.
What's the first unit PP blueline looking like in Carolina rght now... Pitkanen-Corvo? I think Faulk is on the 2nd unit. I'd probably take Gonchar if you were in a 1-year pool, but I'd easily go with Faulk in a keeper league. I don't even have to think about it.
If our team ever needs a pick me up they should roll a Greening-Smith-Neil. That line would be a nightmare to play against.
That line has "Playoffs" written all over it.
Those are the kinds of lines that can set the pace of a short series. Won't be the most productive line offensively, but is perfect for dictating the tempo of a series.
