TOR Rebuild

Lets be realistic. With out a completely lucky start. The Leafs not making the playoffs.
Now let's leave reality behind.

HEre's a quick rebuild for y'all:

Phaneuf ---> EDM 2013 1st
{Gunner + 4th -----> PIT 2013 1st}
{Komi + retained salary-----> PIT 2nd (deadline)}
Brown + MacArthur + Kulemin + Gardiner -----> Skinner + CAR 2013 1st
Grabo + retained salary ----> CLB (LAK) 2013 1st

DRaft 2013:
LAK 1st(28th) + CAR 1st(24th) + PIT 2nd(60th) ---------> 10th overall
PIT 1st (30th) + EDM 1st(18th) + TOR 3rd (61st)------------> 8th Overall

8th overall + 10th overall -----------> 3rd overall(CLB)

3rd overall + TOR 2nd(31st) ------------>1st/2nd overall.

There.

Skinner, Jones AND MacKinnon.

Rebuilt and ready to go.

BEautiful!

How do you get the first AND second overall when trading the 3rd and 31st for one of them?

Phaneuf ---> EDM 2013 1st Maybe...
{Gunner + 4th -----> PIT 2013 1st} Doubt it.
{Komi + retained salary-----> PIT 2nd (deadline) No.}
Brown + MacArthur + Kulemin + Gardiner -----> Skinner + CAR 2013 1st This is bad...
Grabo + retained salary ----> CLB (LAK) 2013 1st No Reason for CLB to do this, just sets them back more

DRaft 2013:
LAK 1st(28th) + CAR 1st(24th) + PIT 2nd(60th) ---------> 10th overall Goodluck with that
PIT 1st (30th) + EDM 1st(18th) + TOR 3rd (61st)------------> 8th Overall ...and this ones even worse.

8th overall + 10th overall -----------> 3rd overall(CLB) Again, CLB wouldn't waste their time with this...

3rd overall + TOR 2nd(31st) ------------>1st/2nd overall. Ok, maybe...

I'd be embarrassed as a Leafs fan if I wasn't laughing so hard. The opening line is my favorite... "let's be realistic"

The only thing that could make OP's proposal any more unrealistic is if it somehow involved a time machine and Wayne Gretzky.

The 3rd we get for the 10th and 8th.

The leafs already have the 1st if they win the lottery and the 2nd if they dont. Since they finish last.

Even if CLB finishes below thhe LEafs they would still get DRouin for their 3rd overall.

Exactly the kind of deal CAR goes for if they are going to fill the roster for contention the next 10 years. They would love Gards. And every player fills a pot on CAR if they choose to keep them. They very least they maintain control over Gards longterm.

When was the last time CLB had a 50-60pts natural center? Grabo is a perfect fit. They have 3 1st picks. Grabo sets them ahead by 3 years.

CLB gets 2 more top 10 picks plus get to pick DRouin or anybody not named MacKinnon or Jones.

Was somewhat OK up to Skinner.

Skinner = Tor 1st + Gardiner + Kadri min

How about

Sidney Crosby for Tor 2013 1st, 2014 1st, 2015 1st, Gardiner, Kessel, deal Pitts?

Don't you think you're being a little greedy... Toronto just made the playoffs 10 years ago...

IN the Skinner deal there is SIGNIFICANT room for movement.
I just thought in their first of many runs for the cup that a playmaking winger, a fast skating checker/enforcer, might fill a few holes. Kulemin could be the perfect checker but if you want Kadri ok. I think Kulemin might fit into their line up better, but Kadri ro Frattin, or Kadri +Frattin it doesn't matter. Gards ofcourse is the key. The young top pairing D-man.

Totally different level from trading Skinner.

Brown has no value and McCarther is a UFA after this season, and Kulemin is the year after that. How exactly does losing Skinner (who is 19 and under contract for 7 years) and a #1 pick (which will likely be higher than #24) "fill the roster for contention the next 10 years"?

Or they don't make this trade and at the very least, they maintain control over Skinner and whoever they draft this year long term instead.

Why would Pittsburgh trade both their 1st and 2nd for that package? Shero rarely trades first round picks. Although, I have a feeling he will this year (being that he had 2 first round picks last year, so he won't shorten the pipeline).

Why in the world will Carolina trade Skinner (esp for that package). That's a huge no. Skinner and Staals are untouchables.

Columbus had Antoine Vermette very recently. No way would the rebuilding Jackets acquire Grabovski, especially for a 1st round pick

Good post. I was going to say basically the same thing you just said it much nicer. Although I am loling pretty damn hard. Reimer is definitely a #1 goalie....

Why would Toronto go through all this work when we can just trade Komarov for the 1st OV and Mike Kostka for the #2?

This was a good way to start the morning Just because Toronto trades their 1st round picks doesn't mean othe teams will. This draft is so deep that I don't think we see a whole lot of movement.

These are all pretty slanted heavily in the leafs favour. Some are fleecings.
