Erik Gudbranson to Ottawa

What would it take to pry Gudbranson out of Florida?

Context: Sens are asking, so Florida won't give up easy.
Untouchables: Spezza/Karlsson, Available: Everything else

Could a deal be done and without including Cowen?

I'd love him on the Sens, but I'd also add Cowen, Silfverberg and Lehner to the untouchables list... and at that point I HIGHLY doubt there would be a deal to be made.

I don't see it happening. Unless it were a package like Cowen + Zibanejad, or something like that. Both teams would be better off just keeping their players though.

I'd rather have Michalek than Gudbranson, especially on this roster.

Well Gudbranson is certainly better right now, and I'm fairly certain he has the higher potential as well. So no.
Cowen is injured

But in the next decade, this would be pretty sweet.
Cowen Karlsson
Gudbranson

Florida's a young team so I'm not sure they'd like Michalek anyways. We kind of make bad trading partners (like Lehner is similar to Markstrom)

Silfverberg or Turris + a pick (1st?) Value seems alright, but imbalances the Sens.

Am I the only person that notices Gudbranson played 10 minutes per game and was a -20, on a 3rd place team?

Sure, that is a bit decieving, and I acknowledge he has alot of upside, but Silfverberg, Turris etc...? its hard to deal them for that at this point based on what they have done.

Bogosian had shown alot more promise before he broke out last year. I'm content with Cowen - Karlsson - Ceci/Wiercioch and keeping Silfverberg who is a keeper.

As I said, with his pedigree, there will be a crazy price Sens would be smart to back away from. If Florida says, hey we will be nice, you can have him for Condra and a 3rd, then sure...

Zibanejad+2nd 2014+Smith

I would give that up for a top pairing defensmen who is still really young.

But this is the Gudbranson thread, not the Bogosian thread.

He's not going anywhere. He improved greatly during the season, and was great in the playoffs.

Yeah... no. Cowen is good but he doesn't have close to the potential that Gudbranson has.

I watched Gudbranson play 50+ games for he Frontenacs. I have no idea how went 3rd overall. He is not that good.

Pass thanks. At that price people will want, I would rather go after Gormely.

Montreal offers P.K. Subban, a 3rd round pick in 2013 and a 2nd round pick in 2014 for Gudbranson and a 1st round pick in 2013

I'm curious though if you actually watched any of Gudbranson playing on that 3rd place team? At the start of the yr, he struggled to adjust to the pro game so they limited his mins quite a bit (even got to be a healthy scratch a few games to help with perspective). As the season went on, he got better and better. When Garrison was out with an injury for 5 games, Gudbranson stepped into his spot on the top pairing with Campbell. The kid didnt look out of place at all and continued to show more and more down the stretch and in the playoffs. Stats only tell 1 piece of the puzzle...gotta actually watch the games to know what a player is worth.

And I'm asking this honestly (mostly to the OP), what is the motivation that the Panthers trade Gudbranson? Every indication is they love the kid and probably figure he's a future captain. He's a right-handed d-man which is rare, has a booming shot, continues to improve offensively, plays a physical style and keeps getting bigger. Unless you offer a massive overpayment that most Sens fans would not agree to, there's not much that makes sense in this discussion.

You're right. But Gudbranson plus a 1st rounder in a deep draft is better than a not signed Subban. That 1st rounder alone could turn into something special. Gudbranson also has the potential to be a force for the Habs. With 2 first round picks and 3 second rounders in this years draft I'm really think the Habs could make a huge upgrade. Wether they draft 5 top 60 prospects or trade a couple of them to move up in the draft.

Aaaand we have a winner.

Dale Tallon's value list:

- North-American
- Even better, he's Canadian
- Plays a mean game
- Fights
- Wins most of the fights
- Sticks up for mates
- DT's own high draft pick
- Future captain material
- Erik wanted to be there even before he was drafted

And then probably the most important thing that Tallon values in a player, Guds wants to be there and be a part of lifting the Panthers to the top.

To DT, Guds is priceless in so many ways.
