This is all beyond disappointing....first the lockout, and now Habs have to deal with this..................I love PK and his talents, and think he will be a star, but I am a Habs fan, and root for the team first and it's players secondly....PK and his agent are not doing the right thing here...

If PK wants a long term deal, then he should be prepared to make nearer to 'short term' money per season, at this point in time. Otherwise, take the 2 year deal, show us your obvious talents (serious), and then cash in. He's young - I don't understand why the impatience to be signed long term...

If true, that he's wanting that kind of money - now? I could see moving him, if the right deal could be made. He's too young and still a bit to raw for that kind of coin. That's disappointing if true - maybe he does want out?

They agreed that one of the two sides will have to budge since they are so far apart and that in many ways it will depend on how the team starts the season.
This is also what I've heard was being discussed. That's more than Tyler Myers and pretty much every other D in the league. Suter as UFA got 7.4 and he's put up more points in each of his last 4 seasons than PK. Putting this into perspective, if Subban is indeed asking for 6 long term it's quite a lot considering what he's done so far.

Man, those PK quotes on twitter really pissed me off. Talking about how much he cares about the fans...Just shut up, don't even pretend.

Thanks. Don't know what to make of that. The demand is understandable given other contracts handed by management. With inflation it may not be that bad.

I'd get a kick out of his teammates resenting him after they prolonged a lockout for more money though.

A lot of cap space does not need to be moved. C'mon.

It's a negotiation. Subban starts at 6 but will probably take 5. Bergevin starts at a low point but will take more. We have been through a negotiation for months, this is standard practice.

He's a #1 dman and should be paid like it. Should he really have the 4th highest contract on the team among dmen? Is that fair?

If you're PK Subban and you see your GM go and sign two 3rd/4th line players to FOUR year deals this summer why wouldn't you be seeking a long-term deal?

Couple that with..........

Gorges: almost 4 mil with no physical or offensive side whatsoever.

Kaberle: 4.5 mil or whatever for being uber soft.

Markov: 5.whatever for barely playing.

Hamrlik: a workhorse earned his dough at 5.5.

PK is headed for his prime. There has been a lot asked of him in his short tenure because of many D injuries. He wants his dough given what's transpired right before his eyes.

He should sign a 1year deal, then they can figure the rest out this summer.

If the puck drops tomorrow and he still hasn't signed, I hope they make him sit out the season.

PK should just stay in his place and accept whatever management offers.

I think that with the quality of the draft this year, Bergevin is less in a hurry to sign Subban. In year one of his teanure, thats the one year he can do this. Plus he his establishing his monetary philosophy.

There's 4.2 left right now with Galchenyuk factored in. We'll have to move 2 million if Subban wants 6 million per year just to sign him and that leaves us with no wiggle room. I think to be safe we want about 2-3 million in wiggle room so we would have to move between 4-5 million. So it's not an insane amount but not negligible either.

I think both sides are playing the waiting game now. Neither are going to budge. If Montreal gets off to a hot start, that puts Bergevin in the driver's seat, however, if we get off to a terrible start that puts Subban in the drivers seat (up to a certain point because we can't fall too far behind).

Pierre McGuire was on 990 yesterday and CONFIRMED he was in contact with BOTH Meehan and Subban via text yesterday.

And when Melnyk brought up 'comparables' such as Del Zotto, McGuire CONFIRMED that Meehan and Subban are NOT looking at comparables. They had an idea of what Subban's value is and they're not going to budge from it.

Caring about the fans and getting compensated for what he thinks is fair are two different things.

Each and everyone of us would do the same in his situation..

Your are picking and choosing now. Many proven D make much less than what Subban is asking for.

Can you find me a #1 dman on another team that plays as much as Subban and in as tough situations, that is making 2.5M to 3.5M?

First season for the GM of a bottom-3 team. Bergevin can afford to wait a bit. This could take a few days...

I would have no problem giving him10 years at 7 million if he signs a 1-2 year contract right now and continues to progress. Blowing the bank after two very good seasons (not OUTSTANDING) by the way is premature in my opinion. Obviously you made up your mind and I wont change that but that's what I think would be more appropriate. He also needs to prove he's the #1D on a Habs healthy lineup (which he did not yet) or that he could be a#1D on most other team in the league but I guess that does not matter to you either. It's like the Leafs paying Tyler Bozak Crosby money because he's their #1C....

Of course not and no one could really argue the opposite...

I've said this several times, but whenever this does get resolved...PK Subban is going to go back to playing 25+ mins a game, vs the oppositions best players, he'll be on the 1st wave of the PP, 1st wave of the PK, late game situations, OT 4 on 4 he'll be the go to dman, etc.

So how can they really justifiy paying him like he's their #3 or #4 dman? Because he's young and immature and needs to prove it?

Let's just say he does sign this 'bridge deal'...how much do you think he's going to ask THEN?

IMO, the Habs are missing on an opportunity to lock up their #1 dman who plays in all situations at a bargain price for the long term...

The more this situation drags on...the more I realize that MB's is maybe misevaluating Subban

Locking up Subban is as much as a no-brainer as Price and Pacioretty was...maybe even moreso

Marc Stall and Girardi of the NYR both make less than 4 mil. Letang makes 3.5. Is that enough?
