Well, depending on who you want to listen to, I wasn't far off

Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper
Sure sounds like #Stars deal with Jamie Benn getting finalized. Latest Dal offer I heard was 33M. Look for cap hit around 5.5M for 5/6 yrs

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
Jamie Benn's agent Rich Evans says his client has no interest in a six-year deal and would prefer 3 to 5 years for term. Still working on it

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun
Jamie Benn's agent Rich Evans says the two sides have yet to agree on term nor on $$. Both sides continue to talk, however.

Mike Heika ‏@MikeHeika
Stars owner Tom Gaglardi said at press conference today he is hoping for good news ``in a few hours'' on Jamie Benn contract. We'll see.

All people that are usually pretty accurate can't seem to agree.

He just strikes me as a guy that will play hard this year to get a big fat multi-year FA deal and then immediately put everything into cruise control. No proof - just a gut feeling.

I would normally agree with you, but after watching him in the playoffs and watching sprawling to block shots, backchecking like a motha, AND has 40 goal potential he would be a good addition in my mind. I use to dislike him so much, writing him off. Last season he made me a believer. Put him with Segin and it's almost too much for Dmen to handle.

Everything I've read this year targets Benn as a top 5 in the league scorer. I'd love to have one of those on the B's. Plus we share the same last name and I'd love to get a legitimate B's jersey with my own last name
And he was great at the All-Stars last year. Only guy to hit all 4 corners of the net on that drill. And fast.

Will sign contract today (Friday)

Confirmed he has agreed to terms - contract to be signed Friday - can't play Friday because he needs his visa and contract has to be signed first

5 years - $5.25 Million per season cap hit.

Wanted more money but settled on $5.25 million. As I suggested earlier - it was going to take around $6 million per to get him out of Dallas.

As for PK Subban - nevermind

5 years for 26 seems a lot more palatable than 6 years for 36.

In the end, you were right about what it would have taken. And I wouldn't have been comfortable with the latter amount.
