Minny really doesnt have that good of a team.

If they put Heatley, Koivu and Parise together then I must say the three other lines look very weak. And Suter is their only top defenseman.

Avs win 2-1, Varly with a huge game, Downie scores the game winner.

Agreed. They either play the same boring style and squeeze a few more 1 goal games (besides ties/SO) with Parise/Suter or they open things up and the goalies and D get exposed how weak they really may be. Their D looks terrible outside Suter. Edmonton's looks better from 2-6.

Don't trust the kindness of the Minny fans, feel like they are playing the trap.

That D of Minnesota looks pretty crappy aside from Suter and Spurgeon.

I think Matt Hunwick will play and OBrien will sit this game. Sounds like Hunwick was our best dman in camp and O'Brien stunk the joint up. Then again it's Sacco we're talking about here, so O'Brien is probably playing 30 minutes tomorrow.

I thought O'Brien and Hunwick would sit after camp, but on the Avs season preview show last night, they said that O'Brien would play with Barrie, so who knows.

Hunwick has always struck me as the type of guy that looks like a superstar in practice and then when a real game starts well we know what it looks like

I disagree, I think Spurgeon's good enough to play top pairing even if he's not a top pairing dman. Maybe Suter will make him look even better or maybe Suter will look bad without Weber and Parise will be a 70 pt player instead of a 90 pt player.....I said hoping.

To me this is a big question about Suter and Weber. Were they both outstanding or was one or the other propping up the other guy. It will be interesting to see this season.

I fully expect Parise's production to stay about the same (70-80 pt player with 30+ goals). He never really played with an abundance of talent (last year being the exception) and New Jersey runs a defensive system. Koivu is the best center Parise will have played with IMO.

I changed my mind. It's come to my attention that the other team will use a goalie. Avs never do well against teams with that strategy.

Great work on the pre-game thread tpedersen21, you did an amazing job

As for the game itself , it's gonna be hard to win tomorrow because Suter and Parise are playing their first game with the wild after getting those insane contracts. They will probably give an extra push the show everyone , right from the get go , that they are worth all that money. Plus, lets face it , getting a W for the Avs against the Wild was never an easy task in the past ... so now you add Parise and Suter.

I had not only forgotten how awesome our PGT/GDTs are, I had also forgotten they existed. It's been too long, NHL.

Parise's hat trick isn't enough as Jones, McGinn, and Olver tally for Colorado and Hejduk scores in OT. 4-3 Avs.

Yup, it was complete last season but conflict of interest existed until WSH traded the 2nd. Now no worries about that (plus I hate the Stars so it's even a plus now). I should change my flavor text.

That's our GDT from Wednesday's scrimmage, not the upcoming game against you folks. We haven't even posted a GDT for Saturday's game yet.

This will be a tough one.
Over the last few years we've almost always played the opening night at home and I always felt like this gave our team the extra 5% of motivation they needed to win.

Now Minnesota gets the home opener after adding Parise and Suter in the off-season, after the lock-out and on the day of hockey in Minnesota. The crowd will be pumped and the atmosphere should give the wild a whole lot of extra motivation.

Of course still hoping for an avs win.
GO AVS GO!!
