He couldn't waive Kotalik at that time as he would still count against the cap until he could be sent down to the AHL when the season starts.

Even though a team is allowed to go over the cap by 10% during the off-season, they still wouldn't have had enough room to make the signing they wanted with the roster before the trade.

In hindsight, no it's not a good deal, but Buffalo hasn't made out like a bandit either. It looks like the most valuable piece in the trade was a 2nd rounder.

Ah, that makes more sense. Forgot about their cap crunch.

Was really pissed McPhee didn't jump at a deal like that at the time.

It's safe to remove Wheeler from the wish list.

What if we add Michal Neuvirth to the deal (not on deadline, but on the draft day)? What would that fetch?

Still not interested in giving up a player, who's scored at least 30 goals in the last 3 full seasons.

Unless Moulson says he doesn't want to stay or prices himself off the roster, I doubt the isles are looking to move him.

I don't see the need to use a 1st to fill such an ephemeral hole, especially at the draft. With Kuznetsov, Forsberg, Wilson, and Galiev in the system, plus Laich and Johansson capable of playing on the wings if they're not needed at center, it's only a matter of time before we have plenty of wingers. If we're going to trade that 1st, I'd want to target a stay-at-home LD to pair with Green. That's a hole we can't fill from within. If we could try to land a guy like Smid at the deadline, I'd go for that.

I might do MacArthur depending on the beginning of the season
If Kule has another bad year he won't be worth a 1st any more would he. Hopefully he turns it around though.

Stop offering Schultz, Galiev, and a 2nd in every single proposal that you write please.

I say he goes early like top 15.

But then again who knows with the russian factor.

We would never get a guy like Vanek but that would be brillaint. I have a feeling they'll re-sign him.

That is, if they don't pull a Briere. Who knows at this point.

Vanek would be the missing piece if you gave up a 1st rounder and Neuvirth though.

Ovechkin, Backstrom, Johansson
Vanek, Ribeiro, Forsberg
Brouwer, Laich, Chimera
Perreault, Beagle, Hendricks
(Wilson)

As a Kings fan, I would offer up Bernier, but there is no need for a goalie in Washington. I would put Loktionov in, but theres no need for a centre either.
This might not be popular with Kings fans, but I would start a deal with Dwight King with conditions based on where the Caps pick, and Kings performance. (A reasoning for other Kings fans being A) The lack of a pick, although it could be obtained in another manner; B) Top 6 forward prospects coming up in the system; C) An overflow of forwards.)
