Something's up. We have 25 players in camp + Henrique on IR. One is Darche without a contract. That leaves 24 players. Matteau HAS to be sent to juniors since Butler counts towards the roster, just to make the 23 man limit.
The only thing waiving Butler does is allow for a roster spot. Either for Matteau (not sure if that's allowed per junior rules), Gomez, or Sykora.
Has to be a Sykora signing. Or maybe Henrique will be back for the home opener, but that's reaching.

Butler wouldn't clear waivers til noon tomorrow, so he'll have to be on Devils' 23-man roster today when it's set before 5 p.m.
Edit : In my opinion this is either a trade in the making, or Lou has seen Butler and decided Sykora is better for the job
Well Lou has to have something in the works.... Obviously they don't have Butler slotted into the lineup if they are going to risk losing him. Is Parise/Poni/Sykora's offense REALLY going to be replaced by Tedenby, Barch, Janssen, and possibly Darche? Not a chance... ughhhghghg

They will most likely keep Matteau and send Tedenby/Larsson down until Butler clears.
It kinda does destroy our offensive hopes. You need secondary scoring, and we just dont have much of it. No Butler and now we have even less.
How do we even know what we'd get from Butler? How do we even know what the team's plans are moving forward now?
Waiving Bobby Butler is a minor concern, and as I've said already it either means Darche and Matteau are getting roster spots or one of them is and somebody is being brought in
This is such a joke. This isnt the 90s anymore, we arent going to win every game without scoring.
Butler was 6/10 in 56 games last year. If hes who you re relying on to score we are in deep trouble. Plus hes what 26 so its not like the numbers are going to get alot better.
When I watched the scrimmage, Butler was a complete non factor. The Devils brass probably thought if he couldn't play top 6 then he wasn't worth keeping up with the big club.
What probably happened is Parise made his heel turn and was like "That's it man I can't do all these trees and mountains and snow and ****" and demanded a trade back here on the condition that Bobby Butler gets waived.
It's the only reason some dude who sucks at hockey got waived.
