Perry is a beast, but I have zero interest paying him 8m+ for 7 years that he'll rightfully demand.

If there's someone on the Ducks I'd want, it would be Bobby Ryan.

Just a feeling, not something I'm saying is hard fact; get the idea of the 2 Ducks prefer to keep Perry, move Getzlaf.

Given Getz is free agent after this season, as is Perry, and Ana could lose both; and is LESS likely to afford both now that salary next year is down...

If Richards waived his NMC, is there some attraction on both sides to something based around
Richards + X (not too much)
for
Getzlaf + y (y is for balance) ?

Ducks downgrade but retain quality short term, then have options to trade/buyout, etc after 3-4 seasons if/when Richards breaks down.

Rangers likely improve this year, depending upon how much Getz will bust his butt, which helps for those concerned with 'NOW'. Then for those seeking long term, we have options on inside track to keep Getzlaf, if we win cup will he take a little less to stay, if we can juggle otherwise for what we need.

I know if choose to use it on Richards because of his salary, we still have one buyout, so we don't HAVE to trade him to move his cap.

But I felt depending upon the throw-ins, this could be win-win.

So Torts is talking like Segal is here to stay, mentioning he could be part of the bottom 6 Depth.

Honestly he's a cheap guy who had played in the NHL and at close to 30 I am sure he will not complain sitting in the press box collecting a NHL salary. IF they need a 3rd line guy Kolarik is an option and later in the yr maybe Miller or Thomas or Hrvik

Also saying Bicke will be playing with DZ so theres your thrid pair to start the yr with Gilroy and Eminger sitting.

So highly unlikely we see a waiver claim. Come the deadline I am sure they are looking for a depth rental Dman that can play top 4 or top 6 depending on cost. Dangle a 3rd rounder and a spare part like Gilroy/Eminger in a deal.

If I'm the Rangers, I stay away from Perry. Something about him screams that he will be an albatross at his next stop. Getzlaf on the other hand.......

Why would he move his NMC? Under no circumstances would he. He came to NY to live there and play under his favorite coach. Why would he uproot his family and go to an organization that is still in rebuild mode as he moves towards the latter part of his career?

And if we buy him out we would look like an even bigger joke and what FA is going to sign with us when they see how we treat players and show ZERO loyalty to them.

I'm assuming Toronto would pick up half.

Yup - Toronto has indicated they wont be buying him out.

Thats a shame too - hes someone who probably could legitimately help this team unlike a Gomez or some of the other weird names being thrown around.

I won't pretend to understand this but I think they would pay half on re-entry waivers, not straight waivers.

No more re-entry waivers. And now you can pick up salary/cap hit in trades, like in baseball. Apparently.

At 2M I can't say I'd be opposed to Connolly. He could fit nicely on the third line and make us deeper down the middle. He's responsible enough defensively. Can PK a bit, good on faceoffs. Gives us options in the top six in case of injury. I hate the player and his salary but, based on the presumed price and the fact that it's an expiring contract with only 48 games + playoffs to go, I can't really let my dislike of Connolly change the fact that it would be an alright move.

You used to be able to just trade straight cash in this league.

I would be okay with Connolly at half the price. But I wouldn't move a whole lot for him. Maybe a prospect like Bourque. If it costs more than that than walk away and wait for the deadline.

Amusing considering I distinctly recall Leafs fans saying Connolly on that deal was better than Richards on his.

Perhaps we should take advantage of this opportunity by flipping Brad to the Leafs and getting Connolly at half again the price.

Well Getzlaf had like 12 goals last year. That worries me. I hope we don't get him and then he changes his name to Getz-last-laf.

I hope we don't get him. Or Perry.

Let's re-sign all of our guys. See how we do this season. See how we do next season. If we need to use another buyout, we will, and then we'll see where our needs really are and who is available. Let's see how Hagelin looks at the end of NEXT season. How Kreider and Stepan and McDonagh evolve over this 48 games plus next year's 82. Then we can worry about the next high priced addition. I love the guys we've got, but with Gaborik Nash and Richards, I've had my full of BIG name signings and acquisitions for a minute. Let's take a break.
