No, the d pretty much needed TO's or it got ran up and down the field...

Certainly. Without the D Bears lose to Lions & Panthers for sure. Probably more as well.

thinking of some of the games makes me depressed at what a joke the offense was

losing this game would have helped in the Draft... but it gave us a chance to make the POs

Drake, Babich & Holt gone with Bates too. Only 3 of Lovies staff remain.

Exactly, when you're constantly on the field due to 3 and outs you're going to need some TO's. When the Bears D didn't get them or did not score, this team struggled and typically lost.

I do not like the QB coach bears just sign. Personally I'd stay the hell away from anyone who got Mark Sanchez were he is today.

I think Trestman made it pretty clear that he will be the guy in charge of further developing Cutler. I wouldn't worry about it. This guy worked with Trestman in SF and Oakland (worked on Steve Young), so he has a long history. Let's face it, what do you expect the guy to do with Sanchez and Tebow anyway? Also, Jets needed a fall guy, and it wasn't going to be Rex Ryan, so out go the OC and QB coach.

This hire isn't as important to the team or Cutler. The DC hire is the next major decision we need to be thinking about.

Of course the game that changed season and ultimately haunted the Bears saw the offense handing ball to rested D only for that D to choke

Then watched Cutler/Marshall magic lead to tie

Only for the vaunted D to embarrass itself again

'Ultimately', they could've won any other game and got in.

D lost to Seattle, O lost to Minny. But not in BWC's world, only the Seattle game matters

The Seattle game was just final and perfect example of Lovie Smith's vaunted D unable to put away a win

We saw it thru his entire tenure (Remember the Matt Ryan ATL win in 08)

I was at that game. Roller coaster ride and heartbreaking at the same time. While I think the D choked, the fact is the O had the ball with 4min left, and there was a fumbled snap for a loss, and two other plays leading to quick 3-and-out that could have put the game away. Still, I felt the D should have stopped Seattle, but we had no answer for that read-option. Was ecstatic when Cutler/Marshall made a miracle play and forced OT. I was certain if we won the coin toss we were going to win the game, but the O never saw the field again and that was it.

Too bad. It was mostly on the D, but the O had the ball and could have put the game away too and didn't.

Offense lost to Seattle too. They turtled instead of trying to win. Sure the D allowed the 2 drives, but the offense should have tried to score more. YourD can't always hold a team to next to nothing, your offense needs to do it sometimes. That game is just as much the offenses fault as the defenses.

Its not unreasonable to expect your team to hold a 3 pts lead with about 3 min left and opponent starting that there own 3

I don't think they turtled, they straight up failed their last drive. A pass play was called when that fumbled snap happened.

The whole first half they moved the ball at will. Second half they abandoned the first half strategy and just did 3-and-outs the whole time.

Classic BWC right here folks. Use a tiny sample size or exception to extract the rule. Fantastic

It's not unreasonable to ask your home team to score 3 more points than they did. Your offense should be scoring at least 24 points a game in this new offensive league when your at home. Stop going 3-and-out when you're up 14 and go for it.

Yes, yes Cutler/Marshall had some good moments but overall the offense sucked.

The Defense was the only reason this team went 7-1, only reason.

Dan Pompei‏@danpompei

League sources say Bears very interested in Mel Tucker to be their defensive coordinator. He could be the man.

Bears are hiring Mel Tucker to be their new defensive coordinator. Being finalized

Should have hired him to be HC.
