I'd assume any interest in him just took a hit, given Tim Connolly is probably a better option for team looking to add a vet forward.

Gomez has been officially bought out and is a UFA, so thread title can be changed:

By all accounts he's very popular with teammates wherever he's played.

some team short on veteran centers will sign him on the cheap. He'd be a decent 3rd line center, perhaps thrive with the weight of "the contract" off his shoulders? I'm rooting for Gomez.

If I was Gomez, I'd call Lou and tell him I'd play for him for free this year. A good fit is a good fit.

Why?

If you win the lottery are you going to call your boss and tell him you'd like to work for free next year?

Well he'd be following in the footsteps of a long list of players who have done the same... oh wait. It's a really nice thought, but it hasn't really worked that way for any other player whose ever laced 'em up. I don't know what makes you think you'd be any different than the thousands of players who have cycled through the NHL ranks in the last few decades.

i dont think poster who suggested he play for free was being serious but your analogy didnt make much sense is all i was getting at. Im sure there's some type of rule or regulation that states players can not play for free.

I can see him going there..less pressure from the media and would be a good low key place to play with some young talent and maybe revive his career in the form of a leadership/mentoring role.

Honestly, im pulling for the guy i hope he can find some form of his previous self.

Avs still make a lot of sense here. They need to show O'Reilly that they are willing to replace him now. Plus, I think it would be fun to watch him play with Hejduk.

That's the Isles head of communications blog https://twitter.com/JesseDEisenberg

Most likely it's community relations related or an extension.

If the Isles sign Gomez I'm taking my tickets tomorrow and flushing them down the toilet. I mean, enough is enough. Make a trade for a legitimate NHL hockey player. This is becoming more than what I can handle.

Not sure how many teams are in on UFA Scott Gomez but Sharks have tendered an offer.

On the Sharks board we've all kind of been expecting this. We need a better bottom 6 player that can fill in top-6 spots when needed. Gomez is super low risk, a good fit, and likely a good career choice for him as well (team is likely to do well, use him in an appropriate way, might get time with Jumbo, low pressure environment, etc).

Wooo! I'd love to have him on my Sharks after suffering through him on my Habs. Dead serious too ahaha, I think he'd thrive without the pressure, and being played with better players quite frankly.

I understand your frustration, but if he was making Wade Redden (STL) money, then he'd certainly be worth it for any team not named the Montreal Canadiens
