Scott Gomez [UPDATE: Has been bought out and is UFA]
And he couldn't crack the line-up of a team finishing 28th last season, no less. That's depressing from a Flames POV.
It's the reality of the Flames situation, they are stronger on the wings but have major question marks down the middle. If Gomez wants to try and ressurect his career, Calgary should be his choice.
If I was Gomez, I'd call Lou and tell him I'd play for him for free this year. A good fit is a good fit.
Obviously not for free but for league minimum 1-year contract, prove he can still play and get a chance for another cup. Why not, he already got paid for this year.

Interesting that Kyper says the Canes are interested as their beat reporter tweeted earlier today that Rutherford told him no interest.

Quite interesting how the contract can alter the opinion we have on a player's performance. I understand the reasoning behind it. Gomez was virtually destroying any chances of getting better and signing UFA's.
Still, the Canadiens were the laughing stock of the NHL because Gomez earned 7 millions dollars while being unable to crack a weak lineup. He had nothing over Desharnais, Plekanec or Eller justifying his presence on the ice. Guess what? Gomez at league minimum is the same player without the big contract.
He's a nice guy, but very one dimensional. Can't believe some teams are desperate enough to grab him.
Also, Martin made his mea culpa on television about not benching Gomez. Being aware of his errors is part of being a coach, he said.

Gomez was a 60 point guy 2 seasons ago and some may write off last season as him having an injury riddled season. Personally I think the only reason a team signs Gomez is they need a 2nd line center and hopes he regains his form, if you already have your first 2 spots filled he will be useless being bottom 6.

There's no team in the league desperate enough to sign Gomez for a 2nd line role.
