For anyone interested, some of our top prospects are about to play against one another. The Minnesota Golden Gophers (Bjugstad, Rau) are having a 2 game series this weekend with the North Dakota Fighting Sioux (Knight, Grimaldi). First game is Friday night.

Also, it looks like Kyle Rau won offensive player of the week (4G, 2A in 3 wins).

He's by far the most complete player on Victoria and I would wager one of the most complete in the league. His skating, puck skills, hockey IQ, and defensive awareness are awesome.

He's currently sixth on the team in scoring (though he has missed time), but I'd say he is easily the best player on the team. He is almost singlehandedly keeping the Royals afloat amidst myriad injuries to our top forwards.

There is a reason why a 46 point WHL player got drafted in the third round. He is one hell of a player whose points do not even come close to telling the whole story.
Thanks for the post Storm. I keep up with our prospect's numbers but haven't seen him play a game. Just read that he had 2 goals tonight and also scored in the shootout.

I'd like to see these games. Hopefully there will be streams.

Well at least I have tonight's game between the Gophers and UND to tide me over until tomorrow. This is going to be great.

Watching Rocco Grimaldi play tonight he is a totally different player than what he was at the WJC. No bad turnovers, no skating himself into a tight spot with no options. He shared the puck nicely and had WAY smarter decision making. It's like watching him develop right before your eyes.

Markstrom got the 1st star of the night with 46 saves on 48 shots against OKC. Nick Bjugstad with 2 assists. Quinton Howden with a goal and an assist. Petrovic with a goal and an assist +4 in a 4-2 win. Drew Shore with 1 assist.

Another Victoria Royals fan here with an update on Steven Hodges.
He's on a serious roll here with three consecutive two goal games and was probably the best player on the ice in each of these including back to back wins over the Kamloops Blazers who are in the top 10 in the CHL and have three of the leading scorers in the WHL.
The amazing thing is the Royals are decimated with injuries to their forwards and are down to one scoring line so Hodges line usually faces the best d pairings as well.

Hodges is a treat to watch with great acceleration, agility and speed and can make plays at speed or use his really good shot.If he can keep this up,he's gonna dominate next year and be a really good pro.

Could you guys give me some info on these prospects :

Rocco Grimaldi
Rasmus Bengtsson
Jakob Markstrom

I have all 3 in various keeper leagues and I'm trying to finalize my rosters. How good of a chance do each of them stand to make the NHL between now and the 2014-15 season?

Only Markstrom is a sure thing for the NHL by then. He should be on the roster next yr and should be a starter rather quickly.

Grimaldi potentially could but I would seriously doubt it. He missed all last yr as a freshman due to injury and still has some things to improve on before he's ready to turn pro. I expect him to play a yr in the AHL before he gets a chance at the NHL so figure he won't be in the NHL till 15-16 IMO.

Bengtsson needs several seasons in development before he's even gonna get a sniff of the NHL. I think he will be a long term project.

what a good pick trocheck turned out to be, how he can continue to play with that tenacity in the pros.

I do think that these days the 'cool thing to do' is bash people who believe in Christ. I think that that shows you how messed up this world is. The media always bringing up Grimaldi's faith as a negative is uncalled for. I remember waking up at 1 am a few weeks ago to watch USA/Canada, and the first thing they brought up about Rocco was that he writes bible verses on his hockey sticks. Not about how good of a hockey player he is but about what he writes on his sticks. I just thought that was ridiculous.

Watching the UND game from lase night, Rocco Grimaldi is just such a different player than he was in the WJC as I've stated before. He makes all the right decisions and moves the puck around the ice beautifully. He definitely has a good chance to play with the Panthers in the next few years.
